Naps

Do your 2.5 year olds nap?

If so, how did/do you handle nap time tantrums?

If not, what age do they start cutting out naps?

Thanks!

Re: Naps

  • My DS is 2.5 and he HAS to have a nap. If it's missed he is miserable. He has started to push it back until around 1. He naps around 2 hours. Even with pushing it back he's still in bed by 8. No fussing for nap or bedtime. Sorry no help.

  • My 2.5 year old still naps. He rarely tantrums about it but we really struggled with it for a few months after he turned 2 and I didn't give up, so he knows better than to fight me. If he did, I'd just put him in his room and walk away.

He occasionally doesn't nap but it doesn't usually kill our day. He just goes to bed early that night. My 5 year old nephew still naps on occasion. I think kids can cut out naps anywhere between 2 and 5, although they still do naps in his full day kindergarten class so it must not be too unusual.

  • DS still needs his nap, other than the odd day when we have such a busy day he doesn't get a nap.  On those days he usually is a lot more cuddly in the afternoon and less active.
He'll still nap 3-4 hours, sometimes more.

  • Mine naps about 2-4 most days. Since we moved her to a bed, she's started fighting naps but I think she's just getting used to it. If she cries, I go in and sit with her for a minute or two. We also started a sticker chart - she gets a sticker if I don't have to go into her room at nap or at night.

My 4.5 year old still naps. I am not ready for my little one to give it up!
"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind." - Kurt Vonnegut
  • My 2.5 year old still naps.  He rarely misses, but on the occassion that he has to due to a family party or something, he does ok.  Up until he was a little over 2, he really couldn't miss.

He doesn't have tantrums for nap but occassionally won't go to sleep and stays in there yelling (not crying, just yelling for fun) and playing. Telling him he won't be able to play with [whatever his fave toy is at the moment] for the rest of the day if he doesn't go to sleep typically works for that. And following through with it if he still doesn't go to sleep.
