Thoughts on Spelling

We have decided to name our son Finley, nn Finn. Debating about spelling Finnley with 2 N's, since I like the look better and matches the nn, but with only one n is the common way. What are your thoughts, one N or two?

Side note: Have this issue sort of with DS1 who's name is Jaxen and we always get the traditional spelling of Jackson but its really not that bad to correct since there are multiple spellings of Jackson now a days and he is a Jax, not Jack which is why we spelled it that way.

Re: Thoughts on Spelling

  • I agree with PP Finley is fine as is. Adding an N to his nick name is really no big deal.

  • Spell it the right way.

  • Finley. Finnley doesn't look right. You don't have to go with two N's just because the nn has them... a lot of nn's stray from the exact spelling of the longer name.

  • Go with one N, you will already have to correct every single person every time Jaxen needs his name written out.

  • I prefer it spelt Finley and I think the nn Finn is great. Just a heads up that I've been seeing Finley used on a lot of baby girls lately. Just looking at the name Finley I wouldn't know if it were for a boy or girl because of that.

    I really love Finn though.

I never would have thought it for a girls name at all. Think we definitely will be going with one n.
