TTC after 35

Intro & advice please?

I'm re-posting here (from tttc) since I am 36: Hello ladies! I would like to introduce myself: I am 36, my partner is 40. We have been ttc for approx 3 years (mainly just unprotected sex around o-time, no charting, etc). 1 year ago we went to a fertility specialist and found my tubes are clear, I am ovulating normally, but he has some "confused"/odd moving sperm in ok numbers...doc said his results were "not the worst, but not the greatest". Since that time I had some other medical issues to take care of (namely abnormal cervical cells and two rounds of treatment) so moving forward with fertility treatment was put aside...this summer we decided to make another appointment with the specialist to move forward (likely straight to IVF) and it is in November. I should probably mention I have a history with tttc, as I was previously married in my early 30s and after 1.5 years trying we did 3 IUI cycles with negative results. The advice I'm seeking is regarding my current cycle. My average cycle length is 26 days, with my longest ever being 30 days. I am currently on day 43 of this cycle. I have taken 4 hpts spread over the 16 days I am late and all are BFN! I have not been particularly stressed this cycle, although admittedly more anxious as this late cycle gets longer and longer with no AF or BFP. So, my question is, has anyone experienced something like this? A rare, but super long cycle? Could my age be a factor in a sudden missed period cycle? After all I have been through I know better than to get my hopes up for a BFP and promised myself I would never let myself go as crazy as I did the first time ttc, with temping, chart obsessing and constant symptom searching.... This state of limbo, however, is really, really frustrating! Thank you so much if you read ALL of my ranting, I am just at a loss for what is going on and my partner keeps saying "talk to someone about it" but I really don't want to discuss this with my 'real life friends or family'.....

Re: Intro & advice please?

  • Hi and welcome.  I understand that the temping & charting can become obsessive - I've actually taken a break from it myself.   However, without it there is no way to really know whether you're late or right on schedule.  I hope you get some answers soon - good luck!

  • Welcome.
I would suggest calling your Dr. and see if they will check your hcg. Then you would know for sure if you are just late or actually pregnant.
    Good luck.

  • If you charted and are certain you ovulated then the standard is to test every week until you are 60 days.  That seems super long I know... the only other option is to call your Dr.  have them to a blood test and if negative they can give you something to jump start your cycle.

If you didn't chart and don't know if you ovulated then you just have to stick it out.  Every woman will get an annovulatory cycle every once in a while.  Don't go past 60 days though....
