formula question for 8 month olds...

first off congrat to TJ and IBack (plus any others i didn't see) on their recent BFP's!

wondering about formula - my LO's have been drinking the orange Similac (sensitive tummies) as a supplement with BM since early on. Now I'm beginning the weaning process so they are still getting 3-4oz of BM per bottle but my supply is taking a dip, so fairly soon I can see them on 90-100% formula. They are still drinking the sensitive tummies, and our pedi didn't mention anything, but I noticed at the store yesterday that there is a blue top Advanced Similac that says "for the first year." Is this something I should be purchasing and potentially mixing with the sensitive? Or is it ok to stay with sensitive? I want to make sure they are getting all the necessary vitamins and nutrients...I guess my pedi would have mentioned something, but figured I'd ask here as well. Thank you!

Re: formula question for 8 month olds...

  • I was supplementing with Enfamil Gentlease, which I would think is the Enfamil version of the same, and then went to straight formula. Our pedi said that if he's doing well with it, then there was no reason to change to the regular Enfamil. The Gentlease was just broken down more than the regular. I think you're fine.

  • We have been 100% formula since 2 weeks and probably 80-90% before then (no supply at all). We started on Similac Advance then had gas issues so we switched to Sensitive around 2 months. We didn't mix, just cold turkey switched and that's what he will be on until we can introduce cow's milk.

If they are doing well with it, I'd stick with it. You should be able to avoid any upset tummy issues that way. They will get all the nutrients they need from it!

  • Thanks for the congrats. I don't think it matters on the formula. There are so many options. We tried switching to regular formula at 6 or 7 months from Alimentum but it didn't work.
