Most of us probably know that we need an antivirus, be careful what software we install, and run scan disk and defragment fairly regularly. What you may not be aware of is that the electricity going into your computer can have an effect as well. Normal electrical current in your house has peaks and valleys that the computer can try to compensate for, but over time are hard on electronics. Remember seeing the lights dim when you turned on the vacuum? Some people believe that because they have a UPS (Universal Power Supply), they are protected. A UPS only turns on if the power reaches a low enough brown out, but does not stabilize the electricity unless it has AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator). There are a HUGE variety of these UPS with AVR out there. I personally have one for my computer and one for my TV.
