A couple questions?

My Husband and I are just starting out researching adoption. One of the aspects we are unclear about is the cost of adoption. I know the cost isn't going to be the same but can you tell me about what it was because we really have no idea. Also he is currently in Afghanistan. He will be home the first of December but am wanting to start the process now. How much of the process do you think could be done with him being gone? Thanks so much!

To be more specific on how much adoption costs... our DIA BASE is $22,500 - that doesn't include any travel if needed, updates on home study etc. 

I would recommend looking at websites for your local agencies. Most of them have a cost sheet somewhere on their site! And then even take it a step further and call around. FWIW I want my husband to go with me for the info meetings so I had to make sure he was available when there was one. Just my opinion!

About cost-
our agency had a sliding scale--- the low end placement fees (not including legal, administrative, etc etc etc) was 11,500.  High end was 26,000 (not including legal, admin, etc etc). All told, we paid around 32,000 for everything- placement fees, legal fees (Agency, ours, birth parent), administrative fees, a doula for our birth parent, etc. This doesn't include- our travel costs etc.
