Brushing teeth

Anyone here horrible at making their child brush their teeth. We've been bad at working it into DS routine. It's time to start though. It's going to be a new years resolution. Currently he thinks his toothbrush is a toy.

Any tips? When do you work it into your routine?

Re: Brushing teeth

  • I'm actually curious about this too. I brush ds's teeth before bed and in the morning when i wash him up but he tends to bite the toothbrush (or my finger in a washcloth) and sometimes pulls out the bristles! i give him an extra toothbrush to hold or i give him his toothpaste to hold when i brush. its still a PITA

  • DS is younger but I have made teeth brushing a part of his bath routine. He is distracted by his toys so I can get in and out quickly. If your DS is already playing with the brush try making it a game maybe brush your teeth and see if he will mimik you.

  • We started making it part of his bedtime routine. Now he knows when we go upstair to put PJ's on we brush teeth too. I let him hold it and "brush" (which is really him biting it), then I take it and do the actual brushing. Sometimes he's good about it, other times he fights. I also got him a toothbrush with Elmo on it, who he really likes. So that makes it a little better.
  • Jack wakes up, has a sippy of milk, poops, brushes his teeth (for the first time that morning), changes diaper, gets dressed, downstairs to play and have breakfast, say hi to dad in the shower, brush teeth again, go to school. On weekends he will sometimes brush his teeth three times in the morning. The kid loves to brush his teeth.

At night we put on pajamas, brush teeth, read stories, say prayers and then lights out.
