Adoption

Application

We got our application in the mail today!  I didn't realize we'd need to send pictures of every room this early.  Now I'm stressed, I thought we'd have time to spruce things up before we made our profile and before the home visit.  We've lived here two years, but we still don't have window coverings (mostly mini blinds that came with the house), we haven't painted any of the extra bedrooms or either bathroom, and we need new flooring in the living room, etc. etc.  We have a lot to do.

Did you all have to send pictures of your home with your application?

Re: Application

  • We did not, but as they say, every agency is different.

I would not stress about things like window coverings and paint. When we did the homestudy, we told the SW that our sitting room off our MBR would be the nursery, and after 5 months we moved her across the hall (to an unpainted room with standard mini-blinds).

  • I have never even heard of this, but I am new to the process.

Like Dr. L said, I wouldn't worry about curtains and decorating and such. I think as long as the rooms look safe and relatively clean you are fine.

    Good luck!

    Started TTC July 2012. Missed m/c & d&c 9/12 11w. Natural m/c 1/13 6w. Chemical pgs 3/13 & 8/13 around 4w. Currently TTA while saving for adoption.

  • We haven't sent any photos of the house in to our agency! That just seems crazy to me if you are just in the application process...

    .... and the wait begins!

  • Interesting. We didn't need to do that. We put pictures of our home in our finished profile but for the home study our case worker just came to the house and inspected. I would have to imagine cosmetic things won't make a difference in the long run. Maybe you could include a letter with the pictures saying you have plans to make changes and then send updated pictures later on. https://joshandkrisloveadoption.blogspot.com/
  • We didn't have to send them pictures of our home. Our social worker saw the apartment when she visited our house.

  • We had to send pictures of the front of the house, backyard, nursery, living area, dogs, and ourselves with the application/home study packet.
