Bathing a supported sitter? (andreahshields)

P loves her baths, but she's getting so busy now that she's constantly fighting my grip on her!  We have an infant tub that has the newborn sling to lay her on her back while we scrub her down.  It usually takes two of us, but now that DH is back in school I'm trying to figure out how to do this when he's not around.  I'm finding it very difficult to do this one handed.  I'll lay her down and she tries to roll.  I'll sit her up and she wants to throw herself backward.  I use a toy bath watering can to rinse her and she's trying to grab it.  Any suggestions for bathing a fighter?  We're practicing sitting unsupported more and more, and I'm hoping it gets easier after that.

  • We have a bath seat that DS can sit up in. He love sit because he's up and can see everything plus it makes it easier for him to play with bath toys. It auctions to the bottom of the tub. Even through DS is a pro at sitting at this point, we will continue to use it for a while because I'm not sure how he would do because he gets so excited in the tub that he'd be falling over everywhere.

  • We uses a bath with the bum bump minus the sling at that stage. Its easier to manage solo if you just set the baby run in the tub. Have à towel ready before you get her in.

We took the sling out for Liv and have just this bump thing in the tub that her butt rests against so she can kind of lean back in a reclined position.  Do you have that bump attachment for your tub?
We tried to take the sling out a few weeks ago, and the tub does have that bump built in, but she doesn't want to lean back.  She's always pulling herself forward, which wouldn't be that big a deal except she'll then decide to throw herself back again.  I'm liking this bath seat idea, but I'm having a hard time finding one to actually buy online.

That bath seat looks kinda cool, like a Bumbo for the water.  Anyone have a recommendation on brands?

I think I found one for $30.  It's called Dreambaby Bath Seat but only sold at Sears.  I need to find a Sears to go check it out first hand before buying.

Yup! Mine has a little more openings in it. The brand is Idea Baby. I would PIP if I could but it never works on mobile for me. He loves it!

  • Yeah, we don't use anything either. Just a few inches of water in the tub and we of course never get out of hands reach. We have a textured tub bottom so that kept him from slipping but a towel sounds brilliant!

  • I use the fisher price whale tub, it has what is basically a removable speed bump that supports a floppy newborn right under the bum from sliding down, and now that C is old enough, I removed the bump and she sits in there by herself, leaning against the back of the whale tub, I'll also keep her in there now that she's sitting on her own, until I'm satisfied that she won't just keel over and knock her head.

This is what we're doing, too.
