Bassinets?

What did everyone do?  Did you have bassinets for the first couple months? Did you use rock n plays? Pack n plays? Just their cribs?

Someone gave me a matching set of bassinets they'd used with their twins and they were great the first couple months or so. I didn't buy the RnP's because we were on a tight budget and we used the money on other necessities. We transitioned to cribs about 3 months of age.
FWIW, my girls were born at 34w5d so they were able to sleep in the bassinets perhaps longer than some full-term (larger) babies.

  • We used a PNP.  They shared that for the first couple months.  Then they shared a crib until last night where one is in the crib and the other is in the PNP.

I'm awaiting the second crib to be refinished.  I'm a little irritated because my DH has been working on it piecemeal since before the girls were born!  Hopefully it'll be done before they need proper beds!

The only other thing I've usued for night sleep was the RNP for a few nights when one was suffering from a bad cold and congestion.

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!

We're going to put both in one crib until they can roll. Then we will put a second crib in our room or transition then to two cribs in their room. I know Rock and Plays are very popular but my pediatrician advised not letting them sleep in it overnight as there is not enough neck support. He did say that the benefit may outweigh the risk if they have reflux though.

  • We're going straight to cribs. We'll probably start them in separate cribs rather than together. It's one less thing to have to transition them away from. I'm not a fan of RNPs. I've read way too many bad reviews and it seems like they are over and improperly used. I'm a light sleeper and don't want them in our room or I'd never sleep. They'll be right down the hall. I also didn't want to spend the money on things that will be used for such a short time.
  • We are using RnPs and us :). They start in RnPs, but by the middle of the night, tend to be in bed, on us.

  • Our boys couldn't sleep in flat places due to reflux, so (after several sleepless nights) we put them in the RnPs to 6w and moved them to elevated PnPs until 5 mo.

  • Both are in RNPs. One has reflux and won't lay on his back. He sometimes naps on his belly in the crib during the day when I can check on him.
