Discontinuing Formula

Hey mamas!  It has been a while since I posted, life has been so busy!!  Lilah just turned 1, I can't believe it!!!  When did you all stop giving formula and start cow's milk?  Did you go by actual age or adjusted?  We are still giving her formula because she just seems to need it...she is eating solid foods well but sometimes "chipmunks" her food - meaning she stores it in her cheek and doesn't swallow most of it.  Just curious what you all did!!  Thanks :)

Re: Discontinuing Formula

  • We began the transition to WCM at 11m adjusted by switching out 1oz at a time. First few days it was 7oz formula and 1oz WCM, then 6:2, 5:3, 4:4, 3:5, 2:6, 1:7, then complete WCM at around their adjusted 1st birthday. As the formula decreased their hunger for solids increased so we started offering three full meals a day and two snacks. At around their adjusted birthday we started offering the WCM in cups and bottle only at bedtime. Pretty quickly they lost interest in the bottle and dropped it two weeks later.

  • We transitioned to WCM around 1 year actual. However, we still continued with 1 bottle of toddler formula for an additional 3-4 months. He isn't always a great eater, so I wanted him to get the extra vitamins for a bit longer. Good luck!
