If you have am appointments

Do you try to eat/drink less than you normally would beforehand?  I know it's ridiculous, but I can't help to try and tip the scale in my favor.  Am I the only one who does this?

  • I always eat/drink normally before appointments. I feel lousy if I don't.

  • Me! Lol, I have one at 11 today and will be trying to not eat since breakfast at 7. If I stay busy it's like a normal teaching day and I don't have lunch until 11:15 or so...

But there is a sonic right next to the clinic and I've always wanted to eat there...part of the reason I set the appt for this one (there are 3 clinics in the area, 2 are a but closer than the 3rd and I can go to any of these) so that I can eat lunch there after, lol! Today is a running day so I'm trying to not let myself feel guilty for eating fast food!

  • Nope. I schedule my appointments between 8-9am, and I eat afterwards. I do drink water first thing so I can do the whole pee in a cup thing, but I don't eat. I chalk mine up to nerves than the scale, but part of it is also the mentality of "I don't want to eat a big breakfast and then be five pounds up on the scale".

My MFM appointments are always in the afternoon [I have to drive 1.5 hours to see my MFM], and I always eat lunch. Psht. The scale doesn't matter at that point. :)

  • I eat a typical breakfast. It's not my favorite meal, so I eat yogurt with granola and milk or water, usually. So, I don't think the scale tips too far in any direction!

  • I always eat a little something especially if it's an ultrasound because baby is more likely to be all moving around adorably in there!! Plus I just keep track of my weight at home (I've gained too much ahh!!) .. my pre pregnancy weight was based off that scale not the one at the doctors with my shoes and clothes all on! I don't even look what it says at the doctor!
  • Nah, I don't really worry about it. But since most of my appointments are around 830 or 9am, I guess I don't really eat much before then anyways. Too early for a big appetite, but I do drink tons of water (which I do regularly regardless if there is an appointment or not).
  • If I try and alter my meals in any way it will only backfire on me.

Along these lines, I'm the same way. If I eat a regular breakfast that early, I feel really sick. I usually don't eat until 9-930am, and even then, I eat light [muffin, bagel, something like that].

  • I don't really eat breakfast until around 9am anyway so if my appointment is before then, I won't eat. I'm not purposely not eating, its just what I'm used to.

  • I mostly have morning appointments and I try to eat something light, so that I don't get sick. I worry about the scale too, though. My next appointment is in the evening and I'm actually really nervous about how high the scale will be cause I can't limit my food intake all day!

This. If I don't eat in the morning, my consequence is much greater than what the scale says.
Plus, I don't pay much mind to their scale anyway. I weigh myself at home at the same time every time and track that weight.

  • Hahaha no! I usually stop by Sbux on the way and pick up coffee and a breakfast sandwich or piece of whatever loaf looks good. That breakfast isn't going to make that much of a difference. Now the pizza I gorged on for dinner last night might ;;)

  • Only appt I don't eat/ drink normally before will be the 1 hour glucose test. They don't tell you not to eat or drink, but I'm pretty convinced that eating breakfast before taking it last time was why I ended up having to take the 3 hour test (which I passed no problem).

It was suggested to me to eat a high protein breakfast before the glucose test. I aim for an omelet or scrambled eggs and milk or water, but definitely no juices.

I've never thought to avoid eating/drinking before appointments. I guess it's because I've had such little weight gain thus far that I haven't even considered it. ALTHOUGH every appointment I expect the scale to jump, but it hasn't happened...YET.
