shoes

how often do you have your LO in shoes?  I was told by my grandma that hes would do better walking if he had shoes on most of the time.   I just have him in socks.  He is a year old and has been cruising for over 2 months now and stands on his own but wont let go of our hands when walking with him,.

My DS only wears shoes when we bring him to daycare. When we are home he is barefoot. If we are going to the store and he won't be walking he is just in socks.

Shoes only when outside or out in public. Bare feet are best. Socks would be harder than shoes if you have hardwood.

Ds only wears shoes if we're out and he's going to be on his feet, and they are more of a leather slipper than a shoe when he does wear them. Pretty much always barefoot at home. Socks if chilly. I think the opposite of what your grandma said is true, and that barefoot is the best way to learn to walk. Then they can utilize their propioreceptors for balance and properly develop their foot muscles.

    THIS!

Honestly this summer she was barefoot 99% of the time!  She just started walking about 2 weeks ago, so now I have to remind myself to put shoes on her when we go out to run errands, just in case she decides she needs to walk through the grocery store I need to keep her feet somewhat clean!

As PP mentioned barefeet are best when learning to walk.  We're still using soft leather soled shoes (Robeez), which are close to being barefoot.

I definatly want to get her a pair of soft flexable rubber soled shoes for the fall though.  Just to protect the bottoms of her feet more when she's walking outside.  I'm heading to the outlets this weekend to see what I can find.  But baby/toddler shoes are soooo expensive (for so little fabric/materials).

Like everyone said, barefoot is best. Socks are a slipping hazard on hardwood, tile floor. I know some have non slippy words on the bottom, but J still slips more with them.

J won't even keep shoes on so i don't know what I'll do in public now that he's walking

We juat started making him wear them when we go out at the begining of August when he started walking in case he wants to get down and walk.

I was worried his little feet were going to freeze off this winter because I had a really hard time finding shoes to fit his short chunky feet and he absolutly hated any and all sandwls I tried thru the summer. We have two pair of soft soled shoea he doesn't seem to mind now. One brown and one white pair. I need to find a pair of grey/black and some boots for winter.

We're almost always in shoes when we go out these days, otherwise he's barefooted. He was an early walker. He slips to much in socks walking on flat surfaces, so I never bothered. We use everything from hard soles to soft soles.

Yep, it's old hat to think shoes help them walk. Barefoot is best for that. We are in shoes when he's walking on the ground outside or inside a store or something. But at home and riding in the Ergo or stroller is barefoot all the way.

Then and now. How did my boy get so big?

Yeah, better to be barefoot.  They can grip with the little toes.  But if they are full time walkers and they need protection, you want to put them in shoes.  Stride Rite has some really nice shoes for early walkers.

We don't wear shoes.  Mainly because I can't find shoes that fit her right (she has a tiny, narrow foot...still in 0-3 months/size 1), and she won't keep them on.

DS was only in shoes when we were going somewhere out on an occasion. Mostly barefoot, but now that he is beginning to walk on his own I will need to put them on every time we go out in case he wants to walk.
