Put on bed rest...

Well, it's finally happened.  I'm 30 weeks tomorrow and I was put on bed rest today.  I went in b/c I was having contractions last night - turns out I'm also being monitored for pre-e now (I have every symptom except protein in my urine) and as I type in the infusion center for dehydration.  Awesome.

My question for you is: what do you suggest to keep busy on bed rest? I've got (hopefully) 7 weeks of it to endure.

Oh man!! I am so sorry to hear this, though I have been keeping up with your blog and LOVE how nice and big your little ladies are so far!

I had some friends put together a list of Netflix TV for me to watch while on BR - I will send you the link through your blog!

Take care of you and those little ladies. (You a teacher, correct? It probably isn't great to be standing all day, anyway!)

ETA - I give up, I can't figure out how to send you a message through your blog. email me at 6to82008 at gmail . com and I will send you the link to the tv page!

  • I'm at 30 weeks and 2 days right now. I've been on hospital bedrest since 24 weeks with 2 or 3 weeks left.

Do you have Netflix? I caught up on a bunch of shows that I just stopped watching in the past for one reason or another. I also read some books. I am still working, so that helps take up a lot of my day. I also knit which helps pass the time.

Bedrest is an odd thing. Time crawls along but then you will suddenly realize how much time has actually passed. Most of the ladies on the High Risk board are on bed rest so you may want to check out that board.

    Good luck.

  • Sorry to hear you have to go on bedrest!  I spent 3 weeks on strict bedrest and I became very good friends with Netflix & Hulu plus.  If you haven't seen Army Wives, I highly recommend all 6 seasons! It will keep you busy for awhile :)  I remember when I got put on bedrest thinking it would go by so very slow.  That was 4 months ago, and now I have 6 week old boys.  I have no idea where the time went!  Good luck to you!

  • I was placed on bed rest at 34 weeks and only did it for two weeks. But, I spent a lot of time watching TV episodes on Amazon Prime and online shopping for babies. I was also on a crazy high calorie/ high protein diet, so the dietitian had me eating all day long!

  • Netflix!!! My favorite series were Scrubs & West Wing. The first week or two was the worst, I kept getting frustrated by all the things that I thought needed to get done, but it turns out the world didn't end when they didn't get done til later. I'm not sure if you already have kiddos, if you do then ignore this next bit, but if these babies are your first, I say do your best to enjoy the calm while it lasts. Once you deliver, things most likely will be full on for quite a while! Good luck to you!!!
  • I was on for 14.5 weeks. Like flat on my left side to eat, and everything except use the bathroom and shower, so you can do it!! I actually mostly just watched tv and surfed the Internet on my phone. Best wishes to you!!
    Married to my dream husband
Mom to 2 year old BG twins (Incompetant cervix, cerclage, and LOTS of bed rest)
    Pregnant with our next!
  • I echo the netflix idea.  I also learned how to cross stitch.  It took me forfreakingever to complete a tiny owl portrait with the girls birthdate and weights on it but it helped me to pass the time and get a break from tv and the internet.
  • Thanks ladies - I'm going to write down all these suggestions so when I get to the "oh I'm so bored I can't do it point" I have a list of things ready to go!!

Sorry there are so many of us that have/had to be on bed rest - but glad I'm not alone and there is support out there! :)

  • You can do it! Another thing that helps me is having a countdown clock on my phone with the major milestones - 28 weeks, 30 weeks, 32 weeks, 34 weeks, 36 weeks. I also programmed it to say how long it had been since I started and the other major milestones. I look at it a few times a day (yes, I know it doesn't change but I like seeing it). It felt like the bedrest was insurmountable when I started.

    @MrsCaseyK - wow - 14.5 weeks!

^^ this for me too. It sucks, but the ends more than justify the means! Ditto on the High Risk board. Hang in there!

  • While it is scary while you are on it, try to enjoy the rest part of it, I miss my bed rest (after everything was fine, that is). I watched a lot of HBO GO (all of True Blood and Game of Thrones, should have caught up on Boardwalk Empire too!) and did a bunch of random research on things like cloth diapers. Some people suggested learning to knit or crochet (not my thing) and keeping up pregnancy journals. In hindsight, I also wish I had addressed envelopes to send birth announcements, as it was tedious to do it and I ended up sending them with our Christmas cards (6 months later). Good luck, hope you just have 8 weeks of boredom like I did and nothing exciting!

  • @LottaLattes - I really like your idea of addressing envelopes.  I also have some thank you cards from my work shower I'm planning on doing tomorrow so my DH can deliver them.  I'm not into knitting or crocheting either - but it seems to be a common suggestion.
