How much milk should LO get?

Been feeding baby food since 5 mo. Should my BF feedings still be every 2 hrs?

Re: How much milk should LO get?

  • I nurse on demand and we're also around every 2 to 2.5 hours. You're not alone! We just started solids over the last week and a half and it has not changed the frequency of nursing (and I don't really expect it to).

  • Same here, I'm not ready to up his foods intake yet, he is eager to eat everything, even tries to grab at almost everything I eat or drink, but the poor little guy gets pretty backed up and only poops every other day. So I'm still doing just a couple of ounces of food then nursing on demand, which will range from every half hour if he keeps getting distracted to 3 hours if he actually gets a good feeding in.
  • You should still feed on demand. Solids should not take the place of BM; they should just be in addition to the same amount. DS1 never changed his BM intake after starting solids (his bottles at DCP stayed the same and so did his number of nursing sessions).
  • Food before one is just for fun.
  • My little guy seems to be able to go about 3 hours between eating, but more typical for us is every 2 to 2.5 hours because I tend to feed him before naps or before we go out somewhere.
  • I have been nursing him every three hours but lately it's like he isn't hungry enough. Starting to space his feeds to 3 1/2 to 4 hours and he eats much better. We also do a fruit or veggie at breakfast and dinner. He eats about 2 TBS at a time. My LO is 6 months btw.
