Trying to Get Pregnant

Pregnitude??

Anyone else taking this? My doctor put me on it and a prenatal vitamin. I started taking it yesterday and both yesterday and today it's given me a pretty bad headache about 45 mins after taking it. I'm hoping this is just my body adjusting to it and that it will stop after I get used to taking it. Also, has anyone heard reviews on it or had any luck with ttc while on it?? I did a little digging on it, but didn't find too many personal stories of people taking it, mostly just articles. TIA!

Re: Pregnitude??

  • I have never heard of it, but I just looked it up on google. Did your doctor say why they were prescribing this supplement?

  • I took it. My doctor suggested it when I told him we were going to start TTC, and just said "It can't hurt" but he didn't specifically tell me to take it.

I asked about it here a few months ago (I think that post got lost in the Bump switch because I can't find it) and the general opinion was that it's a waste of money. The two ingredients are folic acid, which you should be getting enough of in a PNV and myo-inositol which is available on its own for much less money if you feel you need it.

I am taking it until I run out and don't plan to buy any more. But I can't say if it's worked because I'm only on month 3 of TTC.

  • She said it's a pretty new thing. It's a supplement, not a drug. All it is is folic acid and myo-inositol. It is supposed to help you produce better quality eggs and help regulate ovary function. I don't think I've been ovulating every month and so she scheduled some blood work for me next week (when I should be ovulating this cycle if I am) to check that and my thyroid levels. She said that even if I am ovulating, it is a good idea to take this while TTC because of the folic acid. Apparently there have been studies that show your baby has less of a chance of having autism if you have higher amounts of folic acid early on or something.

Haven't heard of it but I can't let this slide... it is a drug.  All supplements/herbals/vitamins are medications aka drugs.  Just because something is a supplement/herb/natural etc doesn't make it benign because they leave the word drug out of the description.

    The end.

    Whoa, chill.

ok, sorry...it just read as a little rude. I am having a rough day here so maybe I am being over sensitive.

My OBGYN says it's safe and I trust her judgment. I was hoping someone else would be on it and could talk to me about the headaches
  • @Momuvtwins when I first looked it up I remember reading that if you experienced side effects you should cut back to just one packet a day for a while and see if it helps, then go back up to 2 per day after a week or so. I drink mine really slowly through the day, and I've never had any side effects.

  • ...am I the only one who thought "pregnitude" was what we were going to call the drive-by BFP posters' behavior?

    Okay.

FWIW I thought it was rude/snippy too.  I got the point that you were trying to make...that it's an over the counter supplement/drug/whatever and not a prescription.

OP I've heard of it but don't know much about it.  It can't hurt though.

  • My doctor just recently told me about this as well since we're TTC got the "it can't hurt talk" which I trust her judgment but was trying to find out its "success rate". Not sure I'm going to go for it - maybe if this month doesn't work out ill try next month. Good luck!!

  • I think it was more of seeing who was using it and if they were finding it "successful" - I had never heard of it before so was curious - especially since its over the counter. But I agree I don't think there's any good way to get this info off this thing!!
