2nd Trimester

20 weeks pregnant, Is it normal?

Is it normal that I'm still not showing or feeling any movement?
Doctor say's babys normal size and growing normally, and that my pregnancy is going wonderfully and nothings wrong.
I'm a small girl 5'2 and 120 pre pregnancy. And i no shes very active because of how much shes moved around on all the ultra sounds. I just see all these mommas with cute little bumps and there feeling there little one. But for me, still nothing. :c

Re: 20 weeks pregnant, Is it normal?

  • I always showed early so I can't speak to you not showing (though I suspect it's safe to trust your dr when he says baby is growing well), but I do know it's perfectly normal to not feel movement by 20 weeks, especially in a first pregnancy. I'm on my 4th and nearing 20 weeks and still havent felt anything.

  • It is completely normal. I am just starting to show at almost 21 weeks and even though the baby is measuring ahead I don't feel him very often because I currently have an anterior placenta.

  • So your doctor told you that everything is fine and normal and you don't believe them?
  • Do you have an anterior placenta? I had an anterior placenta with my first pregnancy. I didn't feel much until around 22 weeks. I am small too and carried very small throughout the pregnancy. I have a picture of me at 7 months and I look maybe 5 months along. The doctor assisting in my csection asked my OB if he was sure that there was going to be a full term baby in there. (He was serious!) That said, I have a friend that never had movement that could be felt to the touch and didn't feel flutters until 8 months. Her husband was never able to feel kicks or rolls. She was over 6' though and that may have had something to do with it. Everyone is different. So long is baby is healthy right! GL!!
  • I didn't show or feel movement at that time with my first.

Everyone is different and every pg is different, I wouldn't be worried.

  • My little one looked like a member of the US swim team at my 18wk ultrasound... and I didn't feel a thing. You're not alone!! You will feel them :) I'm still waiting for the "butterflies" everyone talks about.

Still no bump yet either... I wish it would show up!! I still just look fat, haha... wondering if people REALLY believe I'm pregnant, lol.

    Good Luck!!!

  • What exactly are you worried about if your OB says everything looks great and you've seen baby moving around on U/S?  It could be another month before you feel anything---maybe longer.  Everyone is different.  I would relax and enjoy this time now.

  • Do you know if you have an anterior or exterior placenta? That will make a difference in feeling movement.

  • I have the same problem. Sometimes I don't even believe there's someone inside me! My mom was also really petite and she said she didn't start showing till about 23 weeks and when she did it hit her like a ton of bricks. Lol be prepared and have the coco butter ready momma!
  • That would be frustrating, but as long as you keep hearing heartbeats and u/s's look great, it seems fine. I would only be concerned about no movement if you had been feeling baby strong for several weeks then nothing.
Pregnant with #3, after thee, three's complete!!
  • You might not know what it feels like.  First pregnancy I didn't feel anything until about 20-21 weeks.  This time I felt things at 16 weeks.  My friend who is really slim wasn't showing at all until she was about 22 weeks so you still have a few weeks before you should be concerned for both.
  • I didn't feel movement until after then with my first. My hypo thesis now is that the placenta was in front, thus the movements were cushioned.

  • Give it a few weeks. Your bump will start to grow and you will wonder if it will ever stop!

  • Trust your doctor, if they say everything is normal, it is. Trust me they would bring it up if they were concerned!
  • Ya my vote is for the anterior placenta, I have that and his movement is now getting consistent and 26 almost 27 weeks. Do not worry even though it is hard not too if the Dr said do not worry I would not.

Mom of 4 plus one more!!!!
  • I just asked this on my month board. I am 24 weeks, here is my pic. I have similar stats to you, I think it is unusual but nothing to be worried about!
  • Completely normal!
  • I worried about that too until one night out of the blue...I felt her move...the house was quite, kids were asleep...she does it every night!
Mom of 4 plus one more!!!!
  • I'm an average sized person and I'm not showing or feeling any movement either.  I'll be 20 weeks tomorrow.  My mom said she didn't show for a long time with me.  I think it's just the way it is for some people.  I know it's frustrating, but at least we can still wear all of our clothes, right?
  • I could tell I had bump around 17 weeks but did not start having people notice until around 23. Everyone is different....and a lot depends on where baby is laying. Some days I look more pregnant than others and I think it's where she is. If your OB says its fine, don't worry. Everyone is different and a lot depends on what baby is doing.
