I'm concerned

that my Dr is going to force me to 38 weeks with mo Di twins regardless of the research stating 36/37 latest.  I go to a group practice but have stuck with one Dr.  I had a very bad experience with the other Dr where bc he didn't listen I went untreated for an ectopic pregnant for a MONTH!!!! unfortunately he is seniority and the consulting Dr on my case and delivery.  iI have a feeling my Dr gets it but the other one will say no keep them in.  Please note this pregnancy comes after four years of infertility including five miscarriages. Its so risky to me when I just want them here ... I cant stand the idea of added risk.  We find out tomorrow for sure I just have this feeling w my experience w that other Dr.  My husband and I are considering printing out the research to back up our case.  What would you ladies do....trust the Drs or trust your instinct.

Re: I'm concerned

  • I delivered my modi twins at 38w1d. As long as you are being properly monitored and there are no complications I don't think it would be a huge deal.

  • ive read you went that far before and its awesome but it doesn't make me feel better lol....the risk is still there...I know there are successful cases but there are successful cases too...its the increased risk that's worrying me

  • I wouldn't be all excited to deliver them any earlier than absolutely necessary.  You want healthy babies.  If there are no issues pointing to a need to deliver them earlier than 38 weeks then I'd listen to the OB and go to 38 weeks.

  • I haven't been in that position yet but I would assume that your OB will be monitoring you closely, right?  I would only feel comfortable if I knew that they were paying very close attention.  Have you had any complications with this pregnancy?

  • I know at my ob told me that there are laws in place that do not allow inducing or c sec earlier than 38 unless medically necessary. I think it's a liability issue. Maybe ask for the reasoning behind the 38 week mark. See what their research says and discuss what you have researched with that.
But I agree with pp- with monitoring, I feel the longer babies cook the better. Nicu for early delivery is no joke. And our were guaranteed nicu for 5 lbs and 36.
  • I'm so sorry for this stress. IF and miscarriage really do a number on us! I have no knowledge about mono/di risks, but my OB wouldn't let me go to 38 weeks and scheduled my c/s for 37w2d (di/di). My MFM was also on board with that plan. Is this doctor your OB or MFM? I think if feel good about a MFM's opinion, but I might schedule an appointment with another OB if I were really uncomfortable.

  • Even though my OB wanted me to deliver at 36w because I had the beginning of pre-e, the hospital declined to admit me before 38 weeks. Luckily I started progressing (with the OB help) and she begged to get me scheduled for induction at 37w1d but I was di/di. Hopefully your body will make the decision for you.

  • I've read the same research findings about ideal delivery time with mo/di pregnancies.  I think it's worth having an open discussion about it with your Dr.  Bring in the articles that you've read have him explain and back up his reasons for why he feels it's medically necessary to wait until 38 weeks.  Like others said it's sometimes hospital policy not to have elective c/s or inductions until after a certain gestational age.  If I were pregnant again with mo/di twins I would personally feel the most comfortable with them being born before 38 weeks due to the documented increase in risks at that point.  Advocate for yourself and your babies.  Chances are you won't make it 38 weeks on your own but it's good to have a plan in place.
  • My doctor will not deliver before 38 weeks b/c of hospital and/or insurance policy (she said it wouldn't be "allowed" so I'm not sure which). That being said she won't let me go a day over either so most likely I'd be scheduled for exactly that day if issues do not arise before then.  Because I was recently put on bed rest and am being monitored for pre-e she thinks we will go closer to the 37 week mark - and it will be "allowed" b/c I have a medical issue. Before that popped up though - her hands were tied - even if I had research to show her.

  • My girlfriend had her mo/di girls at 38w2d pregnant and she and they were fine. If everything is fine, as long as you are monitored and the babies/you are doing fine, why not.

  • I was scheduled at 36+5 as they didn't want me going passed 37 and I have had no complications. I did get steroid shots for their lungs and they both came out very healthy. I'd insist on what you feel best.
