Hi there ladies, just got the call from OB yesterday that I failed my 3hour glucose test and now have a GD diagnosis. I'm waiting for a call from the specialist for my first appt but figured I'd check in here to start getting some advice. I have a great support system at home. As soon as I text DH about my diagnosis he came home with several printouts from the internet...he'd been doing some research at work and he's in this with me. I'm so greatful. This is my 2nd baby (DD) first child was DS and pregnancy was normal. This is DH first baby so all is new to him. I am 29w 1d. Look forward to chatting with you ladies.
Re: Intro-GD
It is very overwhelming at first. The first few weeks are the hardest as you learn about what your body can and can not handle. It is nothing to be afraid of or fear though. I have learn that, for me, it is more about portion control and the time of day. I have learned that dairy is the devil before noon and I can handle a little more carbs at dinner. Fruit is nothing to fear as long as I eat it after noon.
Protein is your bestie and eating a lot with each meal can really help your numbers, at least for me. Don't let a high number scare you or make you feel like a bad mommy. It happens. You're human and this is a whole new lifestyle you're switching too. It takes time and patience.
Lets not forget the leverage we now have on our children. It completely changes the old "I carried you for 9 months, be grateful" to ----> "Not only did I carry you for 9 months, but I also gave up everything I loved to eat for you".
Best of luck and enjoy your yoplait lights!

Well, I don’t go see the dietitian till next Thurs so I'm on my own to watch my diet till then. Today was day one and I don't think I did too bad. For breakfast I had a ham n cheese omlet, am snack was a lower sugar choc chip granola bar, lunch was ham n cheese sandwhich, and pm snack (right now) I'm having some carrots and ranch. This is all stuff I had on hand and I know there is lots we have that just won't fly but I just bought two weeks worth groceries then got my GD diagnosis so it's gonna be hard to not eat what we have and not waste it and afford to buy what I DO need!<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
