Also, on the feminisn issue, there's a huge difference between hating men and hating the patriarchy. The patriarchy as a societal norm hurts both men and women. I think it's easy to say that you don't like or need feminism when you have enough privilege to insulate you. I have privilege (I am white, able bodied, straight, cis, and moderately well off, and all of those are privileges in our socity that, with the exception of the last, I recieve based on nothing more than my birth) and it is really easy to become complacent.
It bothers me when I see little girls in Sephora with their mothers buying a lot of makeup. And I don't mean the neutral looking stuff. Seeing tweenagers and sometimes younger, picking up heavy concealer, bold color eyeshadow and lip glosses and lipsticks makes me give that Mom the side eye.
I actually think that it's fine for little girls to play with makeup for the most part, especially eye makeup. There are possibly some looks that shouldn't leave the house but those could be moderated.
What gets to me are the little girls with "Hot stuff" etc. stitched into their clothes. Umm... no!
Fair enough. I have no issues with little girls playing with makeup either. I'm pretty sure I played around in my mother's makeup and tried to wear her shoes and jewelry around the house. Unfortunately, the little girls I see in Sephora shopping for makeup are the same girls shopping in Victoria's Secret picking up the undergarments and sweats with messages written on the back.
I would totally side eye in VS.
THIS. When I was a little girl even passing by VS made me uncomfortable. I was in there the other day to get a new bra and saw tons of girls in the 13 and under range there with moms buying from the Pink line. I know that is a younger line but preteens?!
I needed bras at 13...
Seriously. I was a c cup at 11. Where would it have been appropriate for me to shop for bras? Fredericks? :-P

You should know how great things were before you. Even so, they're better still today.
Now I can't think who I was before you ruined everything in the nicest way
I LOVE carbs!!!! I see nothing wrong with eating them. I just had the best egg white, Canadian bacon, 2% cheese on a English muffin and enjoyed every minute of it!!!! I think those diets where you give up carbs or any particular food group is just wrong! I think the problem is people don't exercise .... It's not the carbs!
I would have agreed with you until about 8 months ago. I exercise regularly (but am not a gym rat, just basic stuff at home) and was not losing weight. I cut down drastically on carbs - not elimiation, but reduction to a really low level - and have dropped over 25 pounds this year.
I slide up and down and can tell you it is 100% related to the carbs in my diet. I love carbs too, but I love my new number on the scale more!
I don't like Snickers, Butterfingers, Reeses... or anything that combines peanuts/peanut butter with chocolate. I have no idea why. I like peanuts and chocolate just fine separately.
Edit: However, I do like chocolate mixed with almonds, walnuts, or pecans..
Edit again: I have no idea if this would be a UO or FFFC.. could be both I guess?
This makes me sad because I love Butterfingers, especially Butterfinger bites!

Oh snap! I just remembered, it was actually 12 for me. Damn that was a long time ago. I was trotting on a horse and I told my mom that it was making my chest hurt. That was at a dude ranch in 1992.

I needed bras at 11 as well. I think the point was more about buying underwear and sweats that say "Hot Stuff" or one I came across IRL "Private Lessons" on the back. I just find that wrong for any 11 year old to be wearing.

To be honest.. I didn't really need a bra until I was about 20 or 21.. I wore them anyway though. The only good thing about gaining weight was getting these awesome boobs No more mosquito bites for me.
@jaytee I appreciate the right to vote, etc, but I don't support aggressive radical feminism. Actually, I don't support aggressive radical anything. Some people are so pro-something that they come across as anti-everything-else, and I disagree with that. I work with a lot of romance authors, so I see a lot of angry anti-male hate tweets and FB posts labeled as "feminism," and the negativity really turns me off. Badmouthing one group in an effort to lift up another is gross.
Modesty isn't just about the way a person dresses. One thing that earns a woman the "slut" label is in-your-face sexuality and promiscuity. Promiscuity =/= monogamy. Women who set out to titillate and turn men on = meh. I'm not into that. But to each her own. That's the nice thing about opinions. Everybody's entitled to one.
"Radical' feminists are not anti-men, we're pro equality.
I'm soooo glad you like, totally appreciate the right to vote. Just like you totally appreciate that you can wear pants now, open up your own credit card without a husbands approval, hold your own mortgage, and so on...

I hate when people judge stay at home moms. I plan on staying home with my kids as long as possible, I figure if you are fortunate enough to live off of one income then be with your kids and take advantage of how much time you have with them!
I can't stand when I hear things like SAHMs are lazy or mooching off their husband or contribute nothing to the household. I also don't roll my eyes when SAHMs say they need a break or time to themselves by getting a Mani/pedi or something. Hanging out with kids all day wears on you, I'm the oldest of 9 I've experienced this personally lol.

Unpopular in certain circles, maybe. But here I doubt anyone would disagree with that.

Shrug. I know for a fact I'll be judged by certain "friends" as well as my ILs if I eveb cut back to part time. I think plenty of people feel that way I just don't think many would admit it on here.
Oh and I think this may have been mentioned before but another UO of mine lately is I don't think Walmart or McDonald's employees should be making $12.50-$15 an hour. The argument that raising their wages by this amount would in effect decrease the amount of taxes paid on our end towards Medicaid is pure bullshit. The average yearly salary for someone making that amount is about $20-25k a year depending how many hours they work. At that amount you can still qualify for Charity Care or Medicaid.
Raising it that amount doesn't magically make all their financial problems go away. Oh and also, those establishments aren't meant to be careers. I understand the economy is rough but that doesn't mean we cut corners and just say fuck it, screw WORKING towards earning a liveable wage, just hand it over for nothing.
Not to mention these workers should probably consider the fact that they'd most likely lose their jobs should the wage raise that high, because the competition and standards would be INSANE and higher qualified people would be hired. Standing around bullshitting and delivering poor customer service would no longer be acceptable. Sure that would be great for customers but would not benefit the people currently fighting for this wage increase.
I also can't figure out why all the buzz is about these two specific companies. Target and Bath and Body works (two places I've worked) both paid less than what Walmart workers make yet I don't hear these employees getting all up in arms about the amount they make, or people calling these corporations evil for not providing a liveable wage. You make what you earn. Being a sales associate means you're dispensable, you can easily be replaced by someone else with common sense. It was always understood you got paid what you earned.. Standing at a cash register does not equal that much worth as far as placement in the company.
Whew I went on a little long there. I just had this argument with someone yesterday who literally said to me "people with college degrees aren't worth more than Walmart employees, how dare we think we should make more than them" how do you even respond to such idiocy?
Ok, I've never been to Disney either, and I'm 30. Not against it, my parents just took us on road trips instead. Being from New England there plenty to see within driving distance that we never took plane trips anywhere. And to be honest, I will probably do the same with my kids. I had a hell of a time on vacations growing up and I totally respect my parents for exposing me to history and culture up here versus spending a ton of $$ on plane tickets, etc.
Also, I love carbs, leggings, Will Farrell and Victorias Secret. I will say, having worked there while I was in college there is some majorly young ladies shopping in there and no they do not just buy the cutesy Pink line...
My UO this week would have to be I HATE reality television. I know its a strong word, but I genuinely do. I think its all set up, people get paid to act like idiots and everyone thinks its hilarious. I hate it. I refuse to watch it.
I dislike mommy wars in general...i.e breast vs. formula, cloth diapers vs. disposable, rear facing vs. front facing, co-sleeping vs. not, SAHM vs. WM and so on and so forth....
Seriously. it gets old, you do what is best for YOUR family and quit worrying about how others raise and take care of theirs.
If I see a mommy wars debate going on I will usually just back away from the post.
Unless of course it is obviously dangerous and or unhealthy.
I dislike being looked at funny because my daughter was formula fed, I had to do it against my own want and wishes because she wouldn't latch. I pumped for weeks. It broke my heart and to have people look down on me for it was like adding insult to injury.

I have a college degree and before staying at home I was the comptroller for a govt entity. I hear crap all the time about maybe I should do something from home maybe accounting work.
His biological father made the comment to me once when he took me to court wanting me to pay him child support that I don't do anything anyway. Yep I literally sit at home watching lifetime eating Bon bon's.
I like Mumford & Sons and went to their concert Monday night. It was a good show, but about halfway through I realized that I was listening to the same song over and over again.
Edited: improper usage of there, their, and they're drives me nuts...

I think I am guilty of all these UOs..except the kid stuff.
Also, Disney World is the HAPPIEST PLACE ON EARTH!
Being a feminist means that you are in favor of equal rights and treatment of men and women. Period. This is not hard.
Disney is awesome. I went there for my honeymoon and we just took our 2 year old and 1 year old there this May. They loved it.
I buy my bras (I mean my 1 bra) from VS because they are the best quality IMO, however I dislike them as a brand and company because I think they are racist as fuck and I don't like giving them my money (hence my 1 and only bra). In case you were wondering, here is one example of how VS is racist and gross:
DD born 6.13.11 at 37w5d
DS born 5.23.12 at 36w5d
BFP 6.9.13|heartbeat of 128bpm 7weeks|7.23.13 ultrasound revealed no heartbeat|natural m/c and d&c 7.25.13

I agree with 99.9% of what you said, but I will say that with Wal-Mart, it's not the wages themselves that most people complain about, it's the corporate culture.
Their repeated violations of labor laws have cost the company over 4.8 million in back wages last year, and this year their main warehousing operator (an independent company) was fined 1.3 million in unpaid meal and break times for 800 employees of one of their distribution centers.
In 2007 they settled a suit regarding the same overtime issues and had to pay back 33.5 million in earned wages. They don't learn from their mistakes- they just try harder to hide their wage violations.
They've been party to a class action lawsuit for blatant wage discrimination against women, they've been sued for managers intimidating employees to work overtime off the clock. They've been sued for hiring undocumented workers to skirt labor laws. I don't know much about the organizational culture of B&BW or Target, but I think it's safe to say they are a bit less shady.
I remember getting a check for that. It was a measly $37 or so. I have the feeling I was owed MUCH more than that, though.
I buy my bras (I mean my 1 bra) from VS because they are the best quality IMO, however I dislike them as a brand and company because I think they are racist as fuck and I don't like giving them my money (hence my 1 and only bra).
I disagree, I think VS bras are overpriced and poorly made. After washing them once, the straps stretch out and the cups get saggy. I used to work there, and I used to only buy from there because they are really cute, but as I've gotten older I think it's not worth it to buy based on brand name but to maybe splurge a little more on the well made ones that will last a little longer.
I also refuse to shop at payless for a similar reason - don't skimp on your feet. Splurge and get shoes that will support you so you don't end up with foot problems later. I'm not saying not to get the old lady shoes - because you can definitely find heels that have support that don't look frumpy - just not to get cheap shoes that will fall apart. I have foot problems so maybe this has influenced how I feel about shoes.
Alright, I will give you that. My bra is worn out, but I think it has lasted longer than other bras I have purchased. Where do you get your bras? I would love an alternative to VS!

It'll depend on where you live and what size you are. Different brands fit different sizes better/worse. I'm in IN and I love Barbara's New Beginnings. I'm really short and have big boobs, so it takes for freaking ever to find a bra with underwire that doesn't stab my armpit or make my boobs point to the sides because my rib cage isn't very wide. But the lady there always works with me and special orders things before I go (because it's like 2 hours away) so I have choices. And then they have a seamstress to fix anything to make it perfect.
ETA: It's worth going to a specialty shop and trying on as many different brands/fits as possible to get an idea of what you want/need. Then go from there.
ETA2: My favorite brand right now is Chantelle.

I have to take some issue with a few of the statements here. To the first bolded statement:
Here's the thing re: Walmart - the corporation pays so little and tends to offer very few benefits for employees, that many of the employees and their families end up needing subsidized support from government assistance programs.
So, liking that they pay very little AND have horrible employment practices, essentially amounts to a lot of that money coming out of the taxpayers' pocket instead of the corporation's extremely deep pockets by holding them to some fair standards of employment practice. @Nariadreaming did a better job explaining the corporate culture differences between Walmart and other large-scale employers.
As for the second bolded statement - I'm not sure which part you are so indignant about but I'll give the benefit of the doubt that it's not the first part, as any discussion of human beings "worth more" and conversely, who is "worth" less, is pretty disgusting. Someone's skills, education and degrees may be worth more in a specific environment but to talk about human beings in this way is offensive. Maybe that is semantics, but in this context, it is important to be crystal clear.

My parents took us on driving trips all over the US too... I can't imagine buying plane tickets to go there. Why not just drive? Stop at fun places along the way, like DC, Williamsburg, Gettysburg, etc.
Exactly, we've been to Williamsburg and Gettysburg! The farthest South they really wanted to drive with kids was NC. Which I can't say I blame them, my brother and I tortured each other in the back seat ha. Plane tickets for a kid are a waste and everyone on the plane just ends up annoyed when the kid kicks the seat or cries or poops in their diaper. I had one kid throw up right next to me on the way down. Not good.

Did you wash them in the washing machine? That is likely why the straps stretched and the cups got saggy. They are supposed to be hand washed, as someone who worked there I would think you would have known that.... I've had all my VS bras for YEARS with not one issue. And, if I had an issue that was a product defect they are AWESOME about replacing the item if its still something they make.
I don't see how this could be a UO - but I also would have no problem w/DD wearing bold makeup and hair colors and clothing.
As long as her grades are good, she could totally go and dye her hair pink. If she wanted to pierce something, that's fine with me. If she wants to start wearing bright makeup, I'll show her how to do it. I was 'alternative' in high school, and I'm totally cool with her going that route fashion wise. She's starting to wear funkier stuff and I show her how to work with what she's got, and she's had blue (temp dye) streaks in her hair before.
If she ended up wanting to only wear khakis and Abercrombie tees, I'd admit parental failure and probably cry myself to sleep forever.

UO: I think cottage cheese is really nasty. I'm pretty open-minded when it comes to food and cottage cheese is the one item I don't see how people can eat. The texture alone reminds me of upchuck.
I love VS bras. I went to the bra genie one day got fitted for bras because everyone said they were so much better even though they were $85 each. I hand wash all my bras and the expensive ones didn't hold up. I wear only one style from VS and I never have a problem with them.
Now the vacation thing ..... We LOVE road trips. This summer we took two. One was 15 hours and one was 10. To me the road trip is part of the fun. See things on the way ... Stop and have picnics. Not to mention the conversation. I've been taking my kids on long road trips since they were babies. The last two years we flew on vacation, because we went to the Bahamas and Acapulco and we had to. My son said this year he didn't care where we went as long as we drove.
@sister13 I KNOW the company doesn't offer good benefits, and raising the average wage to 12.50 an hour won't solve that problem- so for everyone trying to convince us that this will lower our taxes because well have to pay less for government health programs- that's dumb. It's just not true. I wasn't arguing what the company offered benefits wise.
As for the second part, oh please. I in no way even hinted that I think they are lesser human beings because they work at Walmart. That's just borrowing trouble. It was a direct quote from the person I was speaking with- she was referring to "worth" as in what they were compensated money wise. That was quite obvious giving what I was talking about; wages. As for what I was indignant about, I can't believe someone would honestly think we should all be paid the same regardless of education, experience or knowledge.
In the beginning I would handwash, and then as they got stretched out I stopped caring as much about how I washed them. But you're right, the cups only got deformed after the washing machine even though I tried to reshape them before hanging them to dry. The straps stretched out from just wearing them though, I would find that I needed to frequently tighten up the straps until eventually they were as tight as possible and still falling off my shoulder.
Hmm I never had that problem but I guess it depends on the size you wear, what you do for work, etc. I'm sorry to hear that happened though I've had nothing but good luck with mine. I also, unless I was sweating a ton wear mine a few times before I wash them. I don't know if thats gross or not, but they last a lot longer!
The last three (three!) bras I bought were all from Salvation Army. Two are VS and the other I can't remember, but it's a decent brand. They all fit great, and it only cost me $2 a pair. As long as you can read the tag, it usually means it was barely worn. They all fit me pretty good.
I buy 90% of my clothes and 'things' at thrift stores. So I guess my UO would be that I think people who never thrift or garage sale are weird. Or they are super rich I guess.

Thrifting is the shift. I will never buy new furniture again, old stuff has way more personality. Also, pyrex.
omgpyrex.
Our 3rd bedroom/office is called The Pyrex Room, because that's where all mine is stored, along with other crap I collect. I hoard all of the retro.

@katiewest ..... WTF .... You hate the Big Bang Theory???? It's the funniest show!
@teaowl I LOVE flea markets, Salvation Army, good will, and Garage sales. It's amazing all the stuff I find. I don't buy a lot of clothes but I have bought a few. I buy almost all my house decorating stuff there. I have a friend the does the garage sales every weekend and has a booth in a flea market and resales everything. She's a single mom and uses the money she makes from it for all their extracurricular activities and vacation.

I love second hand stores! Also, I get about 80% of my clothes from Ross, they are hit or miss sometimes, but the clothes are inexpensive and cute. I very rarely spend more than $10-$15 on a top or more than $25 on bottoms. Obviously, the quality suffers at that price point, but I actually like to cycle out my clothes pretty often, so I don't keep them long enough for them to fall apart anyways. Quantity over quality for this girl ;-D
Re: UO
Fredericks? :-P
My UO - I am a fan of side ponytails...LOVE them!
This makes me sad because I love Butterfingers, especially Butterfinger bites!

Yep right behind ya I'm a HH/I depending on the brassier. I think I was 7 when I got my first training bra..

Shrug. I know for a fact I'll be judged by certain "friends" as well as my ILs if I eveb cut back to part time. I think plenty of people feel that way I just don't think many would admit it on here.

EDIT: Spelling.

Oh I LOVE this one! I'm a SAHM now. My son is 14 and I didn't stay at home until he was 12. He really does keep me busy, not so much during the day but right after school and he doesn't want me to go back to work he wants me here.
I think I am guilty of all these UOs..except the kid stuff.
Also, Disney World is the HAPPIEST PLACE ON EARTH!
For realz
Well hello neighbors!
I think the paleo diet is stupid and annoying.

ETA: It's worth going to a specialty shop and trying on as many different brands/fits as possible to get an idea of what you want/need. Then go from there.

As for the second part, oh please. I in no way even hinted that I think they are lesser human beings because they work at Walmart. That's just borrowing trouble.
