Out of all days to get sick...

It would figure that she would get sick today. Since about Monday, I have been telling everyone that my daughter was fighting something off. As soon as she starts to get sick--her eczema is horrendous---break outs all over the body, hives, etc. On Monday and Tuesday she felt slightly warm--maybe 99. But she was eating normally, sleeping fine, etc. Just a really itchy mess. I actually had to give her benadryl because the zyrtec wasn't even touching it.

Yesterday she was fine at my MIL's---she was watching her yesterday. She ate, they went out and then she napped;. When she came home she was burning up and could barely keep her eyes open. Our thermometer is very inaccurate, the first time I took her temp it was 105, then the second time it was 102, then 103.1--so she definitely had a fever. I gave her some ibuprofen. As soon as that kicked in she was fine again. We went to my parents house for the Jewish New Year--they have a bedroom/crib for her upstairs that I knew I could put her in if needed. She was fine. Stomach's not bothering her, she isn't complaining of anything-no pulling on the ear, no refusal of liquids/foods.

The problem is we are flying to Florida today for a long weekend. Out of all the times to get sick! I think before we get on the plane I'll end up giving her a dose of advil and benadryl because I want her to feel comfortable.

Timing this kid has it!

Re: Out of all days to get sick...

  • That sucks.  FWIW, I always go by the highest reading a thermometer gives me.  If it read 105 then she was 105 even if only for a bit.  It's much easier to get a false low than a false high.  I don't know that I'd travel with a sick kid but if you do, pack the meds and thermometer and know ahead of time where the closest ER or urgent care is where you'll be.

  • Well she woke up this morning--itchy and fever free. She slept til 8:30am--I gave her Tylenol last night--at about 8pm, and I haven't had to give her anything since. She has been her normal running around self this morning. Just still itchy.

If I got the 105 readings a couple times I would agree, but I only got it once--every other time it fell between 101-103; and I took it about 15-20 times within the course of an hour. I need a more accurate thermometer.

I did pack the meds/thermometer in her book bag just in case.
