Scratch test vent

DS tested positive for peanut/tree nut allergies at age 2. We were told two come back at age 5 to scratch test again. Two months ago, I made an appt with a new doctor for next Monday. They said to stop all antihistamines two weeks before the appt. Today was his first day of school and he had a runny nose, so I bribed into taking some Zyrtec. An hour later I realized my mistake.

I called the doc and the lady told me that it might be okay and that the nurse can some how check if it is still in his system. I'm disappointed that we have waited so long to get retested and I might have delayed us even more...their next available appts are in November. I also hate to waste a half of a vacation day if I'm not getting any answers.

Ugh! Thanks for letting me vent.

Re: Scratch test vent

  • I know! Our doctor says 4-5 days with no zyrtec. That is why we don't get her tested in the spring. She would be a mess. Hopefully the can still test your son though.

  • I did this exact same thing last time I had to have my kid tested. I'm sorry. :(

Did you still have him tested, or did you reachedule? PP said that her doc said 4-5 days, so I should be good, right?

  • Our allergist recommends at least 5 days but prefers a week.  As long as the office says 5 days is sufficient I would not be too concerned.
  • Thanks everybody.  I actually just talked to the office again and the receptionist said that she talked to a nurse after I asked her.  The nurse said that five days should be okay.  Yay!

Can we all hope for a miraculous disappearance of his nut allergies?!
