bumps all over chest and tummy?

hi ladies...my ds who is almost 18 months old has a dr appt tomorrow, but I just wanted to see if anyone could give me any insight on this.  so for about a week he's had a lot of tiny bumps on his tummy and chest...and I think at first they were flesh-colored and raised (almost like goose-bumps) but it seems now they've turned reddish and not as raised.  my friend thinks it may be a heat rash or even dry skin...but I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this?  thanks!

Re: bumps all over chest and tummy?

  • Sounds like what happens when DS2 has an eczema flare up.  Tiny, slightly raised bumps but the patches of bumps are red, not each individual bump itself if that makes sense.

When he has a flare up we just slather him in Aquafor and try not to bathe every day.

  • Could it be roseola?
  • My ds had similar bumps but also a fever and it was coxsackie virus(sp). But my ds also had them on feet hands tongue. It was the worst. He went from the happiest baby to the most miserable. Hope it's not this.
  • Is your DS sleeping in something with snaps on his frontside? My stomach breaks out if I forget to put clear nail polish over my jean snap. I'm allergic to nickel.
  • My son had something like that last year and it turned out that it was reaction to a virus (but not roseola) - I'm sure there was a medical term for it but I can't remember it.  Basically, the doctor said he'd probably had some type of virus that wasn't really bad enough for us to notice anything wrong with him and the bumps were a reaction to it.  She said in a couple of days it would go away on its own and it did.  The bumps, themselves, didn't bother my son at all.

He's had a heat rash before too, which looks similiar, but that usually fades by the end of the day.

Agreed. My son has eczema and it sounds similar.
