Another umbilical cord question

Sorry, FTM here. The stump looks like it'll come off soon. When it does, do you clean the gook from the belly button? If so, how?

When my LO's fell off there was no gunk. We simply out him in his little bath tub and washed around the area.

LO just had a little scab in her button after the stump came off. When we went to the doctor for her 2 week he used a wet q tip and got it off.

Is it something that will just come out in the bath?

My LO's fell off and there still was a little unhealed inside. My ped just said to clean with alcohol at ever diaper change to help dry it up. I didn't know it opened up as well so make sure you get it clean and dry in deep. After it fell off and cleaning it was only a couple days before completely healed and he had a full bath which he loved so much more than the sponge baths.

If it stays gunky for to long, have it checked...LO's fell off at 9d old...we went to the ped yesterday for a weight check, and found she has umbilical granuloma...which has to be removed by a specialist since my ped does not want to do it

DD lost her stump at 5 days. I was burping her, laid her down, went to pee and noticed the stump on my shirt! 

They told me at the hospital 7-14 days... but no problems with it.

ETA    no gunk, but I cleaned it with alcohol swipes.

LO still has a scab and she'll be 4 weeks tomorrow

Mine lost hers yesterday and there is a scab. We've been cleaning it with alcohol still.

The same thing happened with mine, and the scab finally fell off yesterday. Her little belly button is adorable.

DD's is ner falling off and had a ped appt today. He said clean once daily with Qtip and alcohol, till it falls off and first days till is seems dried up.
