injuries

I have all medical decision making power for DS. The last weekend visit with ex DS came back woth an injury so bad I had to rush him to the ER. I asked ex how it happened and why I wasnt made aware when it happened and he blamed me and dodged the questions. I still dont know more than he tripped. The story has changed many different times and DS cant even give me a straight answer past him tripping and landing on something (a bar, a rock ect) I dont know what to do, what to believe. If this happened to you what would you do? Thankfully DS is ok and ex of coarse used that to brush it off even further.

Re: injuries

  • Call your lawyer to see if they think you would push for more of an answer? Unfortunately there is not much to do if he is ok. What was tr injury and what did the ER do?

  • He had a head injury with a lot of bruising that affected his teeth and gums (pushed 2 of his teeth to the side and affected his adult teeth which were growing in). My main concern is this is the third pretty bad injury hes had during a visit but this Iis the first requiring immediate medical attention. The er did xrays and his teeth are the main concern.

  • Oh wow that is definitely in need of explaining. Call  your lawyer, or maybe CPS this is not a typical fall.

  • Was the hospital not concerned that you didn't know what happened??

I would contact CPS and your lawyer.

  • Ditto CPS and your lawyer. He did not trip and have that happen.

  • The drs and nurses asked DS what happened and he told them one version of the story (I was walking on something and slipped and fell into a poll) since DS apparently knew what happened they did the xray and wreferred us to see a dentist.

Thanks for the replies I will contact my attorney and ask what should be done.

So sorry you are dealing with this. I actually was hit in the mouth with a ground ball as a child (I played softball) and it pushed back two of my teeth. It took a lot of force to do that. While I do think it could happen from a fall, it is definitely suspect that your DS is changing the story as to how it happened.

  • I would call CPS too but it really could have been a fall/trip. Face plant into a concrete barrier and that would be the result.
  • Be sure to document document document!! Pictures written accounts of the story you get.
  • I'd try calling the doctor / hospital staff and tell them your concerns.  Ask them if what the injuries were consistant with.  If they did suspect abuse, they are mandatory reporters.  Since this is your DS's first ER visit after seeing his dad, there is no paper trail.  However, I would ask them to include on their write up that the injuries occurred while he was with his dad (I am not sure if they will, but you can ask them to help document).

To be honest, I am starting more and more to believe that CPS isn't really motivated by cals on ex-spouses.  I assume they see a lot of those calls that are false alarms.

Do you suspect abuse, or are you just concerned that your ex doesn't contact you in case of emergencies?   If anything else, I would document this as an example of poor decision making.  Also, you say "DS is fine," but I would document the consequences the doctor / dentist told you would have happened had you not sought care, or not sought care quickly (ie: tooth problems, poor healing, infection).
