1st Trimester

Can I take Tylenol...or no?

I'm so confused, I see different answers everywhere. I am SO sick right now (runny nose, fever, diarrhea, sweaty, etc.) I called my mom and she said I could take Tylenol but then I read things online that contradict that.

I should probably just call my doctor...Just wanted your thoughts on Tylenol during 1st tri

Re: Can I take Tylenol...or no?

  • you can take tylonal, but only take one. You can't take advil.

  • Tylenol is fine.  Stick with regular strength if possible.

  • Call your Dr. Trust the experts... NOT us.
  • Tylenol is fine. Do not take more than the reccomended dose.
  • Yea, good idea... call your dr.  Diarrhea is not good, keep drinking lots of fluids or you'll end up dyhydrated.  Tylenol is ok to take. I took Tylenol cold and extra strength.  And I still do.  GL!

  • tylenol is fine, tylenol cold is not. It is the decongestants and cold remedies that are not good.

  • I use a practice that has 3 dr's and 3 mid-wifes and they all told me that ibuprofen IS OK until the 30th week.  I was informed that is was the best thing for a headache rather than Tylenol.  You need to call you doctor though for sure.
  • Thanks for the advice...I'm just going to go ahead and take 1 Tylenol. It should help with my fever. I haven't been sick in so long, I forgot how bad it SUCKS. I must have picked something up on Christmas with all the kids in my family running around and touching everything. Blech.

  • In Dr. William Sears' Pregnancy Book, he says you can take ibprofen for the first 6 months of pregnancy.  My mw said to take Tylenol though.

  • Fever is dangerous for the fetus so you need to bring it down. In your case, Tylenol should be safe to take. I would only take 1 pill and the Regular Strength kind, and see if that works. Don't let the fever stay up too long, it's bad for the fetus. GL!

You NEED to call him. Fevers aren't safe for the baby. You can sweat it out, but the baby can't. Please call your doc before doing anything. There are so many different versions of Tylenol (some you can take, some you can't). Just CALL YOUR DOC.

  • tylenol and tylenol cold are on my approved list, but there is a disclaimer at the bottom that says that even approved meds should be avoided in the 1st tri...

  • Ditto the previous posters- I have taken extra strength tylenol a couple times a week during this pg to help ease horrible headaches.  My Dr. recommended I take 2 every 4 hours during a headache.

I took it with my boys (10 and 5) and they are perfect little men  : )  It wasn't until this pregnancy that I headr it was a no-no (from this board) but my OB insists it is ok until 30 weeks.  I do recommend that everyone talk to their dr though b/c one dr may say yes and another may say no.  I know it is the only thing that somewhat helps my migraines.

  • Talk to your dr...but here are some meds that webmd says are okay for pregnancy...but I would talk to your dr first

exactly what my doctor told me.

  • Ditto pp, Tylenol regular strength is OK, but not Tylenol with other stuff in it. I heard aspirin, ibuprofen, aleve and any cold meds for multi-symptom are bad. Remember that many cold meds also have alcohol in them, which is also bad for the baby.
