What gives? (wake ups at night)

I went back to work TODAY and of course my little guy decided to go through a growth spurt (or something) this week...or maybe he just misses his mama :) For weeks and weeks he's only gotten up once at night to eat and the night before last it was 3 times, last night was twice and then an early wake up. Go to sleep kid!

But for my question...we do CIO and he's getting the hang of falling asleep, but the last few nights he'll wake up after 45 minutes or 1 1/2 hours and cry and unable to settle. I have to nurse him for literally 20-30 seconds just to calm him down and he's passed back out. The milk doesn't even flow. We don't use a paci.

Anyone else's LO do this?

Re: What gives? (wake ups at night)

  • Mine was sleeping through the night and has woken 3-4 times the past 5 days or so. I think it is teething so that's what I am going with... :)
  • Loading the player...
  • I bet it's teething, my little guy is going through the same thing. The past 3-4 nights were rough. The tooth finally cut yesterday and he just went 6.5 hours and I'm up feeding him now. Give him a little Tylenol before bed and see if it helps. Good luck!

  • Yep, teething seems to have hit us too.  My 12 hour sleeper is now going only 6-8. :(  Usually a paci can get her back to sleep, but lately she's been wanting to eat in the middle of the night which she never has before (since like 3 weeks!).  I'm assuming we got hit with a growth spurt and teething at the same time...I am patiently waiting for this to be over so I can sleep again!

  • could be a number of things

    -teething

-some babies awaken more frequently when mom goes back to work and their in the care of someone else

-awareness of you being GONE, and waking up and wanting mom.

my LO never awoke while teething, and i'm a SAHM so I haven't experienced separation anxiety-however around 6 months she began waking up and night and needing comfort, and after 1 night of letting her cry herself to sleep (she never "needed" to be rocked to sleep but was more demanding of it since 6 months) she didn't wake up after that.
