Skin irritation after leaky diaper....

Three mornings ago my 15 month old woke up and had tinkled through this diaper in the night. It happens occasionally (a couple times a month) and his skin will have a red splotchy look for a few hours even though I give him a bath as soon as he gets up. Later in the day the rash usually goes away.

Well this time his skin had a rough feeling, like goose bumps, and is still red and bumpy even though its been days and he's had a couple baths since then. I have tried putting cetaphil (unscented cream) on it that pediatrician gave us.  The leakage occurred on his front, so his chest and tummy are all irritated looking.

Any idea what I can do to help this go away?

  • Not sure where you live, but as hot and humid as it's been lately, could it be a touch of heat rash?  I'd stop with the cream and start using powder, try to dry it out a bit and let him run around with a shirt on as much as possible so it can breathe.  GL!
