4 hour naps!

Ok I know the saying let baby sleep if he's sleeping but this seems like way to long. Lately when DS goes in the car (which is normally about 45 minutes after eating) he sleeps forever in his car seat. My mother in law fed him at 10:15 and then he fell asleep in the car at 11 and stayed sleeping in the car seat till almost 3! This has happened the past few days around the same time. I dont want to wake him if he's tired but I also don't want him messing up his days and nights or going almost 5 hours with out eating. What would you do? Wake him up after a certain time or just let him sleep?

  • I wake up LO during the day if it's been 3 hours since she last ate.

  • Lucas loves long naps like that too. I usually let him go four hours then will wake him up to eat. Last Sunday the whole family napped and he ended up going 5 1/2 hours between feeds and that night was MISERABLE. I think he was making up for not eating enough during the day - so lesson learned - no longer than four hour naps for us.

  • I try not to wake. I find that LO ends up eating roughly the same amount even if she doesn't eat for 4-5 hours during the day. She'll just eat 5 ounces instead of 3 when she wakes up or take an extra feeding before bed. I have woken her and she gets really fussy so I try to avoid it.
  • My LO gets cranky if I wake him. I just let him sleep but he doesn't usually sleep over 3 1/2 hours during the day.
  • I have been waking during the day between 3 and 4 hrs. He does sometimes fall back to sleep after nursing.

  • I wouldn't wake him unless there were weight gain issues or it was interfering with his sleep at night.

  • I let DS sleep. If it ain't broke don't fix it!
This - I wouldn't wake him unless you are having trouble at night. My DD takes a long nap during the middle of the day - I love it and use that time to get things done! The rest of the day she takes little cat naps (often on me) so I enjoy the long break
  • Sounds like we should just leave him be. Thanks :)

  • LO also takes a 4 hr nap in the middle of the day very often. I always just let her sleep.

  • I have not yet had this problem, but, no, I would not wake Finn up.
