Finding an OB

Mobile searching sucks, so forgive me if this has been asked a trillion times, but when do you recommend getting an OB? When you're getting ready to TTC? After you get a BFP? Whenever it's convenient? I've already looked through my options and done research on them and picked my "first choice", but am unsure when I should start making some calls.

Re: Finding an OB

  • I just see my PCP for my yearly check ups through Sutter, but I know I don't need a referral with my coverage. I guess I'm just curious who I would call to make the first apt with after I get my BFP? My regular Dr. or the OB I think I want?

  • Mine was also my gyno.

  • I see a midwife for my gyno visits, and I'll also have her for prenatal care as well. Some places recommend a pre-pregnancy/TTC appointment, but it seems like the consensus is that these are not needed and a waste of time if you are healthy so I'm not planning to do this. From what I hear, they just tell you to start taking prenatals, call with a positive HPT, and come in after a year of TTC.

  • I plan to TTC in January and have scheduled an appt with my ob/gyn in a couple of weeks just to make sure everything is working right. lol this will also be my first appt with this doctor since i switched to my husband's insurance so i wanted to meet her and get familiar. i also wanted to get some tips and advice. i don't think you can ever be too cautious when it comes to TTC so why not and get a check up...it can only benefit you. =)

  • I have had an OB since I was 20 when I started having my annual PAPs done there.  I have a family history of ovarian cysts that show up in our early 20's. So, I

  • My primary care provided recommended I meet with the midwife crew at our HMO a few months before we start TTC. I'm high risk in a few ways so she wanted me to have all the prep info possible to be safe. My H and I met with them yesterday! Super exciting. I get to have midwife level personal attention and deliver in the hospital with the specialists nearby, just in case. Now we just have to get pregnant!
