Smoothies out of a sippy cup

Hi everyone. I was just reading a post about smoothies for super picky eaters. My LO would eat fruit only if allowed and giving him anything else is hit or miss and a challange to say the least. Does anyone have any simple smoothie recipes that can be consumed out of a straw sippy cup that they wouldn't mind sharing with me. I am not much of a cook so don't have any fancy gadgets but can get a blender lol. Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Ditto PP.  We use straw cups, and generally use yogurt (generally Greek yogurt), whole milk, fruit, and either PB, honey, or sometimes a squirt of chocolate syrup.  We bought this from Amazon and it works great.

  • Milk. greek yogurt, frozen fruit, and spinach. Freeze the spinach to make it last longer. Shredded carrots would be a good veggie, too.
  • My son is a smoothie addict.  We do one every morning. This recipe is usually good for 2 smoothies, so I only have to do it every other morning.  Here's what's in it:
Whole milk (usually about 1 cup)
frozen fruit (I let him pick, we have an assortment of raspberries, pineapple, mango, blueberries, strawberries - and he can mix or match, but he gets about 1 handful per bag)
    half a banana
a mommy sized handful of spinach.

    (you'll definitely need a blender!)

I hate milk/yogurt in my smoothies, so I use OJ, frozen berries, a more substantial fruit like peaches/banana, and spoonful of almond butter, and that's about it.  LO doesn't drink smoothies yet, but given that it's what I survived on while pregnant with her, I'm sure she'll get a bunch when I get pregnant with baby two!

  • We do smoothies out of a sippy cup all the time.  Fruit, yogurt and spinach is easy to blend.
  • Thanks everyone! I am off to buy a blender lol.

  • we use pureed fruit or veggies (I bulk cook veggies in a 3 tier electric steamer and blend with a magic bullet or regular food processor and store in the freezer in 2 oz, 4 oz and 6 oz containers)...yoghurt and milk.

Apparently even the most disgusting of combos tastes yummy to a toddler as he sucks them down no problem, The only time I have seen him refuse a shake is when he is teething real bad and doesn't want ANYTHING at all.

This might be a stupid question but do you guys just use raw spinach? Do you chop it up before blending it or does it just mix in well and come out smooth?
I was going to ask the same thing!

It chops up well when I use the smoothie maker that we have.  I don't do any prep with it.

  • My LO has a smoothie of milk, fruit usually blueberries or strawberries, a leafy veggie kale or spinach or both, and carrots. He has 1 with every meal about 24oz per day. It is not too thick so he drinks it from a zoli straw cup.

Sometimes I cook the spinach first since it contains more calcium if cooked. It blends well regardless of raw or cooked. I have a vitamix when is really good.
  • We use the Playtex sippy cups and make smoothies that are drank just fine, oj, yogurt, fruit (usually banana and something else), and usually raw zucchini (I don't like spinach so we don't usually have it in the house).

  • We use a regular cup and a plastic straw. He loves it since smoothies are the only thing he gets to drink from a cup with a straw and not a sippy so he drinks up very well.

We have a pretty standard smoothie that is very easy and we love. Celery and a green (we choose from spinach, kale, or romaine lettuce) and then we add 3 fruits and water, or 2 fruits and half orange juice, half water (as much of each as you want). The fruits we choose from are oranges, pineapple, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and bananas. It's super easy and very convenient as I just use what I have in my fridge.

We also make one with milk, bananas, strawberries and spinach. He loves both kinds.

    We use raw baby spinach.
