NBR: Prank or vandalism?

Someone took to our  neighborhood FB page this morning to report he'd been vandalized. Apparently his car was heavily rolled in TP, and he says the wet paper damaged the paint. We also get the outbreaks of egg throwing from time to time in the 'hood. 

Here in our north Atlanta suburb, messing with someone's home or vehicle is considered an act of vandalism or bullying and often done to people you don't like. I've heard from co-workers, though, that growing up in other areas they used to do these things to their friends homes as just a fun thing to do, and generally the offenders were expected to return the next morning and clean up.

How about where you live? Vandalism or innocent fun?

With toilet paper, I'd say it was a prank. Eggs, not-so-much.

Toilet paper- prank. I'm having a hard time believing that it damaged his paint.
Eggs- vandalism. They might mean it as a prank but eggs are damaging to paint on cars and houses.

Yeah, I've never heard of rolling a house/car/etc. damaging anything, but I don't know. He thinks it's because it rained, then dried. Come to think of it I've had wet paper get stuck to a table and dry before and do damage...but I don't know how wood compares to car paint.

TP isn't bad, but if they used shaving cream or anything like that, it will ruin the paint.  And since it rained, he wouldn't know that's what did it.

Good point. There was quite possibly something else that isn't apparent after the rain.

I would say the TPing is just a prank... But eggs would be vandalism. My SIL's car was egged and the acid ate away at the paint!

I agree with the others, TP is a prank and eggs would be vandalism.

TP-ing is usually a prank but it can damage cars if the TP gets wet and then dries. It has to be scraped off and can make loads of little tiny abrasions. It's not nice at all and can require a complete paint job! It may have been meant as a prank but didn't turn out that way.

Both are reportable to the police here and considered vandalism. Cleaning up wet toilet paper is annoying...I don't really think this kind of stuff is funny at all.

A week ago some vandals used a bbgun or some sort of projectile to shoot out car and building windows in my town. They hit over 50 cars (including mine.) Obviously it was more severe than wet TP but this kind of stuff is annoying...not funny.

We used to TP cars but our biggest go-to prank was to plastic fork someone's front lawn.  Expensive but so worth it! To see like hundreds of the forks stuck in the lawn...

We also stuck un-used pantyliners all over my yearbook advisors car but unfortunately not all the adhesive came off so we paid to have it cleaned and detailed!

TP is a prank. And we definitely did that in HS. And yes, the rule was you show up to help clean up. I remember a lot of silly string too.

Things like eggs, soda and bologna on cars were always the "meaner" ones that no one would own up to. I say if monetary damage is done, it's vandalism. IDK if that makes me a party pooper.

That would be a prank in our area. The kids here like to tag stuff. THAT is vandalism, not TP and eggs.
