How did/do you sleep?

Just a general question. Especially to those in the 3rd trimester. I was up on 3 pillows, adding a 4th really twisted out my back and left me feeling like my belly was just hanging there at times. So, back to 3 I went. Have a body pillow, maternity pillow...I just cant get comfortable. I feel like Im huffing and puffing for air while flipping from side to side...and while rolling over, Im sure I make the exact noises that a beached whale make...I know I sure flop like one. Im in a recliner now but Im still so uncomfortable and cant sleep. Any tips? Im 35+5 so Im sure I dont have much longer to go. I just want to get some sleep while I still can. TIA!

Re: How did/do you sleep?

  • I've found that using a small firm pillow (for me it's a tempurpedic lumbar support pillow) as a wedge under my back works really well. I then hug a bigger pillow in front and actually fold up my snoogle and use it exclusively between my legs... Any closer together and my hips are killing me. This takes all the pressure off the various points and I'm pretty comfortable.

I'm 29 and 4 with trips... So not as far as you, but I'm still pretty large!

  • I am having the same problems...I am using a snoogle, but it is taking some getting used to and I am also huffing as I turn from side to side...I just CANT only sleep on my left side...I get so sore. I dont sleep well at all.

  • Oh - and I usually switch sides when I get up to go to the bathroom (2-3 times a night)
  • I'm 37 weeks and the hardest part for me right is switching sides. It such an ordeal, but I can't sleep on one side for long. I quit sleeping with a body pillow a couple months ago because it became so cumbersome to roll over.

  • Thats how I feel, too. I cant just sleep on one side all night so I have to roll side to side. I feel like every time I roll Im starting a new theatrical production or something. I dont mean for it to be but its so dang dramatic. Its just the whole belly thing when laying down. I feel like it needs its own passport to get from one side to the other. I feel the babies when I move and each time I roll there is stretching and pulling. I just need to get a decent nights sleep before my boys arrive. I cant seem to figure it out right now tho.
  • I cannot get more than a couple hours at a time. I am 29w6d with twins. One of my twins is waaay under my right ribs and the other is transverse in my pelvis. I sleep in a Snoogle but have to get up to pee and turn over because my hips hurt so much. I have four sleeping positions - right side, right halfway on back with Snoogle supporting half of back, and then the left side ones. I have to have something btwn my knees. Ambien and Tylenol have been my friends.

  • During my 9th month I slept on my recliner. It was pretty tough, but what I found worked best for me was putting small pillows on each side and one behind my back helped me be very comfortable. There were 3-4 days I went without sleeping and my OB/GYN suggested I take Benedryl. Believe me, Benedryl was a life saver. If I hadn't had it I donno what would u have done, because honestly in the last few days nothing works well. Give Benedryl a try!!! ;)
  • I was having a hard time sleeping into my 3rd tri. That's when I broke down and got a snoogle. Then I started having to pee every hour or so and turning over was tough. Oh and of course, the night is when my girls decided it was the time to start moving as well. So needless to say, I didn't sleep much. I would just take naps when I could. Laying on the couch helped a lot and that's where I napped a lot. Good luck! I only made it to 34+4 so I was big but not huge yet.

  • I remember those days quite clearly. It was really uncomfortable. I also tried sleeping in my recliner for the last month. My doctor recommended Unisom and it helped somewhat. Hang in there, you're so close to the end!

  • Yeah, I pretty much didn't sleep from about 32 weeks on....I remember being on the verge of tears going to bed most nights since I knew I wouldn't be able to sleep no matter what I did. Wish I had some advice besides try to take as many naps as possible (I know it's hard b/c you have two other LOs...) Hang in there, mama....you are almost there and your bed will be your friend again soon! (when you aren't up all night w/ newborn twins lol)

  • THIS is EXACTLY me!!  I'm on the verge of tears every night and try to find something to watch on TV because I know I'm not sleeping.  I'll doze off and on while on the couch watching TV.  And trust me, when my son goes down for a nap, I let DD do her own thing and I "rest my eyes" on the couch while she plays, watches a movie or plays on the computer.
