Progesterone in Oil

I did not do progesterone shots with my fresh IVF cycle, but now I'm doing a FET & my a@@ is killing me from these shots already. Ideas to make this more comfortable? Am I doomed to have a lump, sore butt (not the worst thing in the world, but, ya know).

I agree with PP- the heating pad afterward helped me a lot. I stood against a wall or door frame and took my weight off my leg on the side in which he was giving me my shot. That helped too. Hope you feel better and GL!!

I warmed the oil in my elbow before and did a good massage and heating pad after. I also alternated sides every night and laid on my belly during the shot. I was able to avoid the knots, but I do still have some numbness. :-S

Definitely massage the area and use heat after the shot. Good luck!

I iced for 15 minutes before....DH gave me the shot.....then put heat on for 10 minutes after.  I didn't feel the shot one bit.  Just a bit sore after...but no big deal!

With my fresh cycle, I eventually had to go to my thigh.  I was just too sore.  Then we would rotate 4 sites (each side, hip and thigh).  I just sat on our bed with my legs out and DH would do it in my quad...I am such a baby, I would hold a magazine so I couldn't see the needle.  I always do squats/lunges right after the shot, too, so the POI gets spread out and it seems to reduce the stiffness later.

I would do almost all of things suggested here!  I took my weight off leg and tried to relax it as much as possible.  I warmed the PIO by running it under warm water (while in syringe).  Then I sat on heating pad after shot, rubbed my butt and did little dancing to get it moving around so my butt didn't get all lumpy!  Good luck!

Howdy - I'm jumping in rather quickly, I know - but, I'm still on the PIO as well, and my DH has gotten pretty good at giving them.  I've noticed that for the initial sting, an ice pack beforehand seems to help a lot -

But, what has helped the most is just finding the right spot.  The higher on the hip, and further on the outside, the better, in my case.  I also lay across the arm of the couch and make sure my leg is relaxed.  It helps a lot.  In the right spot, I don't even need to warm the oil, massage the spot, or use a heating pad.  Most of the time I don't use an ice pack anymore either.  If he starts to get it too low, it hurts like CRAZY!!!  GL!!!
