Babies on the Brain

Baby fever

Hi everyone,
I'm writing in hopes of finding some people to talk to and vent about my horrible baby fever. I'm 28 years old, married almost a year, but together 10.5:) I am in the process of finishing graduate school to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. I graduate May 2014.
Currently, I have an IUD, so no immediate plans on TTC., plus I need to finish school.
However, baby fever is sooooo intense for me right now. I am in my pediatric rotation at school, and literally had to hold back tears when I saw a 1 month old.
I plan on removing my IUD in March 2014...6 months to go!!
But I feel so obsessed with thinking about pregnancy, babies, nurseries, family, etc., it's so distracting.
Anyone in the same boat??

Re: Baby fever

  • YES!!! Same here! We have been married 1 1/2 years but together 10!!! We decided February/March is the right time to start TTC, but I want it to happen now! So i go back and forth everyday of throwing that plan out of the window and doing it now. Then I think that we should stick to the plan because we will be moving soon and have time to save money and get the things we want before it's time to start spending money on a baby. Also, 6 months will be here before you know it! I occupy my time by pinning cute baby stuff on Pinterest and getting everything the exact way I want it before we start trying. I'd say just try that and when march gets here then you'll be glad you took this time to prepare and save some more money. It's hard, I know! :-)

  • Thanks for the reply, Ashley! Glad to know I'm not alone. I've definitely had a private baby fever board on pinterest for months:):)
  • I only hide my breast feeding pins etc and everything else is fair game! I literally break down my boards so much that I have about 25 baby boards. Entertainment, girl clothing, boy clothing, neutral clothing, parenting, travel, etc. I have no shame anymore! Its open season! Haha but I do get asked on a normal basis if I have something to tell so and so because they see my pins. Lol
  • Baby fever is so tough!  I would spend the time you have before TTC getting prepared so that you are ahead of the game.  You could start cleaning up a room for a baby or you could start a new budget with a babe in mind.  Also, taking up a new hobby is always great.  When I had baby fever before my first, I spend my downtime knitting a blanket.  Made me feel useful and kinda had a purpose!  Best of luck when you do ttc!

  • Yup, we're also planning to star TTC March 2014 but the baby fever is bad! We've been trying to enjoy life with just DH and I and get everything in order in the meantime. 6 months will be here so soon!

Honestly I have never felt this "fever". Most of my friends ask when did / do I felt/feel the itch. I can't say I ever have. When it was time to ttc we simply did.

    Maybe I'm just very practical?
  • I am so glad to hear other people are going through the same thing. I always wondered if I would know when it is time and it definitely is here, My DH and I have been married a little over 4 years and are planning to start trying in November. I don't have as long to wait, but I am so excited and can't hardly wait. I think about it all of the time. We are trying to enjoy our time together just the two of us for now. Good luck with finishing school and making it through the next 6 months!

  • I am in the same boat. Married for a little over a year and together for 6 years. We've always talked about how we want to raise our future children, discuss baby names, and love on our neighbors' precious baby. I have had serious baby fever ever since our anniversary. I've always wanted to have children sooner rather than later and my desire seems to amplify daily. But dh is not on board until I'm finished with my masters. He jokes that we won't have kids until I'm"making bank." To distract myself I pin to my pinterest board and have done a lot of research on how I will raise our children. Ie: breast feeding, cloth diapering, potty training, etc. At least this makes me feel prepared and eases my brain a little. For now I'm just trying to enjoy our spontaneity as a couple and getting all of our projects done before we add a baby to the mix. Good luck!

  • We def have the fever bad. My bcp ran out so we decided to go into "not trying but not preventing" mode, but I now find myself making more notes and actually "trying." I went to a christening for my cousins son last weekend and holding that little boy gave me the strangest sense of completion since our wedding day. I felt like a weird part of me had been fulfilled. I handed the baby to DH and you would have thought he was the dad.... Just seemed so natural. I keep all this baby craziness to myself though (except for here) until its real for us.
  • I definitelty keep it mostly to myself. I don' t want to freak out or scare my husband. He's not one to go crazy into the whole planning mode for the future. He believes things will happen when it's time, but we all know that in actuality, things happen because the wife diligently plans and makes them happen!!!:)
  • Both my husband and I have serious baby fever!! We're waiting to TTC until January since we'll be taking a 2wk vacay out of the country. We're beyond excited and can't wait! I have 4 days left on BCP and then i'm letting my cycle regulate. I'm hoping it'll go back to normal by the time we go on vacation. It'd be perfect if we made the baby there :) good luck to you!

  • Thanks for all the replies, guys!
  • Yes, I was the same way before we began ttc!  You aren't alone with these feelings.

When we got married last August my DH and I sat down and made an agreement on when we would begin ttc.  After lots of discussion we decided that we would have my IUD removed in July of this year. I swear from January on all I could think about was babies. I had a count down on my phone going with the number of days left until the apt to remove my IUD (obsessive, right!).

Once we actually started trying my baby fever died down a little bit; however, I am sure once we get our BFP it will kick right back into full gear!
