Registry question

I'll be 20 weeks on Wednesday and I haven't started my registry yet. Should I start it soon? It seems so overwhelming. I printed out the Lucie's List recommendations, but is there anywhere else that is very helpful? TIA!

I'm 22 weeks and thinking of starting in the next 2 weeks. Nothing has been planned for my shower yet so I don't really feel in much of a rush. I have researched everything I want though.

Start now! You'll want to put your registry info on your shower invites.

 I was overwhelmed too but ended up enjoying it. I know that at Target and BabiesRUs when you do an online registry the categorize the items and create a checklist for you. THis certainly helps keep you organized and on track. You don't have to order all the items of course but it was nice to have a guideline. I also used Lucies list as a reference which was pretty on par with the BRU registry especially. I did start with the big items (stroller, breast pump, diaper bag- this was a big deal because I have to share with DH, pack-n-play, crib) but then the other items I just went down the list. If you have a friend who recently had a baby they will probably be your BEST helper since they know whats out there. I find that my mom and MIL are very well intentioned but have no idea the options that are out there so it all seems very excessive to them and I can't blame them.Oh- and give yourself time for goodness sake it may make your brain turn to mush so you will probably spend a few days at least on it! Has someone offered to throw you a shower? Do you know when it will be? DH and I registered last weekend, after we found out the sex last week, but my shower is in early October. If you're having a late November/December shower, you may want to wait a bit yet because some items can be discontinued or taken off the shelves and you won't want to have to re-register for them.

Saw a mention of registering for breast pumps. Just a reminder! Call your insurance company!!! I'm covered on up to 2 pumps per year (high end Medelas!) through BCBS! Most other companies are covering now. Check it out, and save your registry items for more fun things

I did, but thank you! My insurance is great EXCEPT with this. I'm amazed they offer no coverage for breast pumps. I will probably call back again and just see if it was the rep I was speaking too. What's BCBS by the way, I haven't heard of that. Thanks!

Aww...sorry about your insurance!! Def try again. I made several calls and got different answers each time. BCBS= Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Thanks for the help everyone! I know I'll have a shower at school probably in November or December. I guess I've got some time. Thanks @PNWgirl for the additional lists.

I started my list at16 weeks... I went to the store, took a look around, and since then I have been going online, adding and removing things... Plus, I have time to read reviews, remove things that have recall, remove things that friends are handing me down, ask friends with babies what they like better (I am FTM)...

I didn't want to be walking around too big... I have been tired lately and I am glad I did it before

And as PP said, you will want to put your registry info in your invitation...

I will be 23 weeks on Thursday and I have 2 showers planned for me in early November. So in order for them to send out my invites by October 1st I need to have my registry completed here in the next 2/3 weeks. I plan on registering with my DH on Wednesday, we are registering at Babies R' Us and Target.

Really looking forward to it!

I started my registry with DH at 17 weeks. I registered with Target and BRU and used their checklists as a guide. We started in the stores but were very overwhelmed with all of the options. The internet has been my friend because I have been continually adding to the list or replacing items that I have decided I didn't need or found better alternatives online. The good things about those stores is that when you check online you can see if the items are available in store, online,  or both. And if they're only available in store, you can even search for the stores nearest you/your family and friends to see if they're in stock. Anything that gets discontinued you can delete or replace easily with the click of your mouse. Just check online once a week or so. I say start early! There's a lot to consider and it never hurts to have more time than not enough.
