Fruit flies are the absolute worst

I've been battling these motherfuckers for over a month now. 

Everytime I get them under control, they show up again and are like "FOOLED YOU"

Tomorrow the kitchen is getting a thorough cleaning (AGAIN) and I am banning DH from leaving food out, even produce.  He is going to have to eat it all or someshit.  

Die, motherfucking fruit fly motherfuckers.  DIE.

Try this fruit fly trap. I swear, it's a miracle for catching those suckers. Get a small cup or empty pop bottle that you don't mind throwing out then pour in about 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar and a drop or two of dish soap. The fruit flies will be attracted to the vinegar, but the dish soap screws up the surface tension, so when the fruit flies try to land on the vinegar to drink it, they can't and drown instead. You'll find tons in the bottom of the cup after a few hours.

I hate those things! We used to have a lot of trouble with them as well. I have a vague recollection of bleach/vinegar obsession cleaning for some time. Now we battle ants off and on. I've been mixing Borax and honey and keeping it outside my doors. It seems to be working. A friend of mine recommended diatomaceous earth to me for the ants, and any bug problem. I'm not sure if it could help with the fruit flies, but maybe worth a shot if you've tried everything else.

Fruit flies are the worst. We had them in my old office once, and actually had to have a bug guy come set some magic bait out for them. He said something about eggs surviving for 8 weeks. Good luck CinemaGoddess, I hope you can get rid of those pesky flies soon!

Mugs of apple cider vinegar (raw if you can because the smell is stronger)

Also pour vinegar down your kitchen or bathroom drain, after a minute, baking soda, then after 20 mins hot boiling water. A lot of flies come up through kitchen or bathroom drains. This will kill them and clean your drain.

false.  pantry moths are the absolute worst, with fruit flies coming in at a lose second.

seriously though, i hope you are able to get rid of them.  the apple cider vinegar trick worked for me.

I'm with you. We've been battling them, too. We had 4 or 5 of the suckers all at once the other day. It made me ragey, and even Nora was pissed off about it lol.

We battled fruit flies for a month last year before we realized they weren't fruit flies. They were grease flies and they were coming out of the kitchen drain. We bleached and sent boiling water down the drain and they were gone. Grease flies and fruit flies look identical, at least to me.

They're the pits.  The only way I could get rid of them was to make a trap with a piece of fruit in a narrow glass, and a funnel made out of a piece of paper.  The morons can get in but can't figure out how to get out.  And NO dirty dishes left out ever....or until I knew they were good and gone.  GL!

All that is fine and dandy, but the vacuum is your friend. Use the wand attachment to suck the little bastards right outta the air and off any surface they are on. You have top do it for a couple days to catch them as they hatch, but this makes a drastic difference. HTH.
