GTKY Friday!!!

Hi all!
I posted a GTKY on my other board and thought I'd repeat it here! It's been a little quiet around here....take a Friday before-a-holiday-weekend break and share!

1. If you could meet a person from history (or, anyone who is now dead) who would it be and why?

2. What did you eat for breakfast? And, what do you wish you'd had for breakfast (calories/availability aside)

3. Where did you grow up? Was it a small town, big city, etc.?

4. What are 5 words people use to describe you? How do those reflect how you describe yourself?

5. What is your most cherished childhood toy or gift memory? (Inspired by doodah's football uniform which I LOVED)

6. If you won $25,000 (take home, after taxes) what would you do with it right now in your life?

7. What kind of phone do you have?

8. What shoes are you wearing right now?

9. If you could meet someone famous who is living, who would it be, and what would you want to talk about?

10. What's the most beautiful place you've ever seen? When was it, and tell us more?

Add a PIP of your choice as a bonus!!!

Fun! Thanks for doing this, 2mamaz. I was thinking we needed to liven things up!

    1. If you could meet a person from history (or, anyone who is now dead) who would it be and why?

I'm in a silly mood so maybe one of the Golden Girls?

    2. What did you eat for breakfast? And, what do you wish you'd had for breakfast (calories/availability aside)

I had a glucerna shake for breakfast. But if I wasn't insulin resistant and gluten intolerant, I would have swam with my mouth open in a pool of pastries.

    3. Where did you grow up? Was it a small town, big city, etc.?

Ogden, UT. It's a city near SLC and is mainly midcentury suburban homes. Not quite sure how to describe it.

    4. What are 5 words people use to describe you? How do those reflect how you describe yourself?

Determined, caring, stubborn, intelligent, and tall? I'm 5'11" so at least that one is right!

    5. What is your most cherished childhood toy or gift memory? (Inspired by doodah's football uniform which I LOVED)

I remember the day I got the barbie townhouse! It was made of a cardboard backing with plastic poles, and a working elevator you pulled up and down with a string. I was way into barbie, I think I might have had at least 50 at one point in my childhood. My brothers would pop their heads off and it would infuriate me because their heads were never the same afterwords. Short necks!

    PIP of the townhouse: image

    6. If you won $25,000 (take home, after taxes) what would you do with it right now in your life?

I'd probably put it in the bank in case DEmbryos don't work and we move to traditional adoption. But if we aren't talking IF, I'd probably install a pool in our backyard or put in high-end hardwood floors all over my house.

    7. What kind of phone do you have?

DROID RAZR Maxx. It was awesome in the beginning, and now it's slooooooooow.

    8. What shoes are you wearing right now?

    Bronze gladiator sandals

    9. If you could meet someone famous who is living, who would it be, and what would you want to talk about?

I wish I could meet all of the wonderful ladies on TB who have been such an amazing support! Seriously! You're all famous to me!

    10. What's the most beautiful place you've ever seen? When was it, and tell us more?

Hawaii is one of my favorites places with the lush trees and plants, but Providenciales in Turks and Caicos has the absolute most beautiful beaches and water on earth. DH and I have been to T&C twice. I could live and die on the beach there.

Add a PIP of your choice as a bonus!!! (See above townhouse)

Thanks 2Mamaz for a fun poll!  (edited to try and make font size larger). :)

    1. If you could meet a person from history (or, anyone who is now dead) who would it be and why?  Hmm, I really don’t know?  Maybe Elvis or Marilyn Monroe, so I could find out more about what caused their tragic deaths.

    2. What did you eat for breakfast? And, what do you wish you'd had for breakfast (calories/availability aside)  I ate Quaker Instant oatmeal for breakfast (cinnamon flavor…wish it was the banana bread flavor, but I ran out of those, LOL).

    3. Where did you grow up? Was it a small town, big city, etc.?  I guess I would classify it as the ‘big city’.

    4. What are 5 words people use to describe you? How do those reflect how you describe yourself?  Honest, caring, loyal, a good friend and cares about my family.

    5. What is your most cherished childhood toy or gift memory? (Inspired by doodah's football uniform which I LOVED)  Well, funny enough I had the same Barbie townhouse Liz had (and loved it), but I don’t want to pick the exact same thing, so I will go with my Farrah Fawcett doll/makeup head instead, LOL.  I’m probably aging myself with that one!!

    6. If you won $25,000 (take home, after taxes) what would you do with it right now in your life?  Aside from paying off credit cards bills (mainly b/c of IF treatments), I would love to put that money into much needed home improvements.  Although, I would probably need a lot more money to accomplish everything on my wish list (new bathroom, new kitchen, new driveway and landscaping, new deck, etc.)

    7. What kind of phone do you have? I have a ‘dumb’ phone…nuff said!!

    8. What shoes are you wearing right now? Just socks, as I’m in the house.

    9. If you could meet someone famous who is living, who would it be, and what would you want to talk about?  This is actually IF related…I would have loved to meet Dr. Alan Beer while he was still alive and practicing to discuss my specific IF issues.  I guess I did the next best thing and consulted with this office.

    10. What's the most beautiful place you've ever seen? When was it, and tell us more?  The pink sand beaches of Bermuda…would love to go back one day.

Add a PIP of your choice as a bonus!!!

  • 1. If you could meet a person from history (or, anyone who is now dead) who would it be and why? I would like to meet someone who lived in Sparta when it was at it's peak. Those people seem like they were both amazing and crazy at the same time.

    2. What did you eat for breakfast? And, what do you wish you'd had for breakfast (calories/availability aside) I ate two pieces of toast with chunky PB and a glass of OJ. Homemade french toast...yummy!

    3. Where did you grow up? Was it a small town, big city, etc.? I grew up in a small town in WI. I couldn't wait to leave when I graduated high school and yet here I am after college back in the same small town!

    4. What are 5 words people use to describe you? How do those reflect how you describe yourself? Happy, natural, caring, gullible, nerdy. These words reflect me quite perfectly.

    5. What is your most cherished childhood toy or gift memory? (Inspired by doodah's football uniform which I LOVED) It wasn't so much a "gift" memory, but about once a week when I got home from school, I would have to go on a scavenger hunt to find my afternoon snack. It was always so much fun and I got a yummy snack at the end of it!

    6. If you won $25,000 (take home, after taxes) what would you do with it right now in your life? I would either put it towards paying off the town home we no longer live in (it's rented) or use it to pay for a surrogate.

    7. What kind of phone do you have? Samsung Galaxy 3. It's purple!

    8. What shoes are you wearing right now? My shoes are stink tennis shoes with a hole on top. I only wear them at work...I really need new ones.

    9. If you could meet someone famous who is living, who would it be, and what would you want to talk about? Billy Crystal. I would like to talk about anything funny. I think he's hilarious.

    10. What's the most beautiful place you've ever seen? When was it, and tell us more? I would have to say Maui. DH and I went there for our honeymoon (Sep 2006) and we drove the Road to Hana. We got to swim under a waterfall just like they do in the movies. It was amazing.

  • 1. If you could meet a person from history (or, anyone who is now dead) who would it be and why? Oh, goodness I can't think of anyone.

    2. What did you eat for breakfast? And, what do you wish you'd had for breakfast (calories/availability aside) A boiled egg & coffee...my morning standard. Mmm something syrupy like french toast or chocolate chip pancakes swimming in syrup!

    3. Where did you grow up? Was it a small town, big city, etc.? A small town in TX. Ever heard the term podunk? I'm pretty sure that place is where they came up with the term. lol

    4. What are 5 words people use to describe you? How do those reflect how you describe yourself? Sweet, patient, quiet, funny, shy, although I'm sure some people exchange "shy" for awkward or rude. lol I am patient and try to be kind but of course I know that I'm not always feeling/thinking as sweetly as people may guess. ;)

    5. What is your most cherished childhood toy or gift memory? (Inspired by doodah's football uniform which I LOVED) When I was about 6 I bought a plastic toy monster from a garage sale for 25 cents and I loved that thing. It was my baby...odd, I know! Well my sis got mad at me and ripped it's head off one day. We weren't able to get the head back on and I was heartbroken. A few years ago I reminded my sis of this and she scoured ebay trying to find me a new one and was so upset that she couldn't replace it.

    6. If you won $25,000 (take home, after taxes) what would you do with it right now in your life? My first choice would be fertility treatments, but if not that then I would pay off my 2nd mortgage (we have an 80/15/5 and I would love to knock off that 15% one and only have the 80% one left!) and take DH on his dream vacation to New Zealand.

    7. What kind of phone do you have? iPhone

    8. What shoes are you wearing right now? The most comfortable flip flops ever which I got in a flip flop exchange.

    9. If you could meet someone famous who is living, who would it be, and what would you want to talk about? Again, I don't know. I have a hard time with the people questions. It's probably because I know I wouldn't be able to carry on a conversation for long. I'm not much of a "talker". lol

    10. What's the most beautiful place you've ever seen? When was it, and tell us more? The Na Pali Coast on Kauai. Absolutely the most beautiful place I've ever seen. We were there in Sept of 2011. We saw it from a boat and from an airplane tour.

Add a PIP of your choice as a bonus!!!

There are much better pics of the Na Pali Coast, but this is one of mine. :)

  • 1. If you could meet a person from history (or, anyone who is now dead) who would it be and why?

Probably my Grandma. I always hear great stories about her, but never really met her.

    2. What did you eat for breakfast? And, what do you wish you'd had for breakfast (calories/availability aside)

Some CoQ10 Gummies.. I wish I had some pancakes from The Pancake Pantry in Nashville with cinnamon syrup- or even Banana Walnut French toast from a place on the shore up here.

    3. Where did you grow up? Was it a small town, big city, etc.?

I spent 13 years in Jersey City- but I rarely admit that. Moved to a Jersey Shore town after that and I've been a "local" ever since.

    4. What are 5 words people use to describe you? How do those reflect how you describe yourself?

Random, Sharp, Shy, Caring, Busy- I'm so busy that I'm all over the place, and I've always kept to myself mostly, but once I do open up, I'm very quick-tongued and comical.

    5. What is your most cherished childhood toy or gift memory? (Inspired by doodah's football uniform which I LOVED)

I loved my Strawberry Shortcake baby doll. It blew Strawberry kisses. I think if you found one now, it would still have that smell.

    6. If you won $25,000 (take home, after taxes) what would you do with it right now in your life?

Either put a down payment on a nice house, bank it so I wouldn't have to worry about the year off of work I need to complete my degree, or spend $5k of it going to Disney, where dh and I could discuss the first two options.

    7. What kind of phone do you have?

    Just got the iPhone 5

    8. What shoes are you wearing right now? Flip flops

    9. If you could meet someone famous who is living, who would it be, and what would you want to talk about?

Hmm.. I'd love to talk to Miranda Lambert about all the charity work, how she came up with some crazy songs and life with her hubby, Blake.

    10. What's the most beautiful place you've ever seen? When was it, and tell us more?

I see a new one on Pinterest every day- but in real life.. hmm.. I really loved this hiking trail in the Adirondacks in NY. There were caves and waterfalls and weeping walls. We went around 6pm in the summer, and the sunlight made everything glow.

  • Whoops I forgot to post my answers!! :)

    1. If you could meet a person from history (or, anyone who is now dead) who would it be and why? I have two - one, is Jesus - not because I am religious at all, but because I want to get the story straight and correct all of the conservatives "cafeteria Christians" I know. Plus, I'm guessing he was a good guy. Second would be my dear (late) friend and neighbor, Shirley's husband, Aino (Finnish name). I knew Shirley the last 10 years of her life and I am a much, much better person for it. Her children (in their 60's-70's) remind me though, that I really missed out not meeting the love of her life. On the 10th anniversary of his death (they were married over 60 years), she told me "Oh honey, I am still madly in love with him every day!" - my hero! (Wait one more - Mama Cass - to ask if that ham sandwich was worth it...)

    2. What did you eat for breakfast? And, what do you wish you'd had for breakfast (calories/availability aside) Oh it was a cheat day since I'm off work! I had my split shot 8 oz Americano (soon to be decaf, but not quite yet) + a French style cinnamon roll with pecans which I ate 1/2 of. The rest will go to the chickens. Normally I have 1 of our girls' eggs, in a small tortilla with a little cheese and hot sauce.

    3. Where did you grow up? Was it a small town, big city, etc.? I grew up in the booming metropolis of Albion, PA. It's a 1 square mile town with 1 traffic light and an equal number of bars and churches. I ran screaming as the clock struck midnight on my 18th birthday. :) At 7 years old when we moved there from Erie, PA (a decent sized small city), my mom said "You were crying. I asked what was wrong, you said "Mom, I just think this town isn't going to be good for me." She replied "And I lied to you and said you'd do great!" I did ok, but I could not wait to leave.

    4. What are 5 words people use to describe you? How do those reflect how you describe yourself? Talkative, generous, loyal, bossy and energetic. And I think that sums me up pretty well - I do talk a lot and am very extroverted and I work on being a better listener all the time. I really don't hold much attachment to stuff/money, etc. and am happy to give things to the people I love; I am loyal to a fault and generally believe people are good; I'm the oldest of 4 girls and work on not being bossy and have improved on that greatly! Oh, and I do have a lot of energy. No doubt.

    5. What is your most cherished childhood toy or gift memory? (Inspired by doodah's football uniform which I LOVED). This one is hard for me, but I LOVED my Easy Bake Oven, but it kinda sucked because getting the replacement batter/light bulb was always hard so it was rare that I got to really use it.

    6. If you won $25,000 (take home, after taxes) what would you do with it right now in your life? Ya know, as much as I'd say I'd potentially invest it in one of J's coffeeshops, I think we'd ultimately build our dormer/upstairs bedroom/bath that we want to add to the back of our house. We had the $ but then her second shop popped into our lap, so we put the money there instead a year ago.

    7. What kind of phone do you have? I have a Windows 8 Phone - the Nokia 920 (a sure sign of where I work - like, at parties people say "Oh, where do you work at MSFT?" and I think I forgot to remove my badge...but it's my phone.) Not to drink the KoolAid, but I love it, and I think it is superior to J's iPhone for a number of reasons...though before this that is what I had! Of course I didn't really have a choice and, well, re: "Loyal" as one of my descriptors...

    8. What shoes are you wearing right now? None! Barefoot, day off at home. When I do put on shoes they will be flip flops made of recycled yoga mats (so.seattle.lesbo.)

    9. If you could meet someone famous who is living, who would it be, and what would you want to talk about? Ok - this is obscure but, I think I'd want to meet Jeff Tweedy who is the lead singer of Wilco, a band usually more loved by dudes but that J and I both had listed as our first band in the music section of our MySpace page when we met. We actually did meet him once after seeing them play in Amsterdam and he was so sweet! But I'd just love to have him for dinner, hear about life since his recovery from addiction, and see him as a regular guy. In a weird way, his band helped me and J notice each other and want to get to know more.

    10. What's the most beautiful place you've ever seen? When was it, and tell us more? 20 years ago this week I was en route to Seattle on I-90/94. Now this is not a sexy answer. But, driving through eastern Montana at night, seeing "big sky" in a way I'd never seen - stars horizon to horizon - was a pivotal moment for me. I was standing up with my head out the sunroof of our 90'something VW Jetta, and it hit me that there was so much more to the world than western PA and NE OH, which was all I really knew until then. I'd never crossed the Mississippi before moving to Seattle. The next night, passing through the mountains of western Montana at sundown en route to Idaho was equally moving/stunning. I think it was a lot about the metaphor, but I remember it vividly!

As always, the PIP of your choice is a bonus!!!

Here is me and my dear friend Shirley, 5 years ago this weekend at my 15-year Seattleversary party. I had a "Neighborhood Hour" before the actual party started largely for her and everyone in our neighborhood who wanted to see her too! J took this picture and she could not have captured our adoration for one another better. I miss Shirley every day!
