Success after IF

High Progesterone in First Tri?

Anyone have high progesterone in first tri?  I just got my blood results back yesterday.  At 9dp5dt beta was 66 and progesterone is 106.  The NP called those "healthy numbers" and said come back for blood work on Tuesday.  But at 4 weeks that's a high progesterone level-right?  Does that mean anything?  Good?  Bad?  We transferred one blastocyst as I can not risk twins, so odds are there is only one in there.

So, ladies, any experience with high progesterone and insight on what it could mean?  IF makes me worry about everything.  EVERYTHING!  Argh.

Re: High Progesterone in First Tri?

  • Aren't you on progesterone?  I've always heard that you can't have too much progesterone.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

No experience, as I was never told my level and was on PIO. But, I agree with @itsmevkb. I thought you couldn't have too much.

  • Yes, I'm on PIO.  But that was my question, can too much progesterone be bad?  It sounds like it's not.  Again, I blame this paranoia on what is probably a good thing on how warped my brain has become with IF.  That any out of the ordinary results lead me to think something is wrong or will go wrong.

  • From what I understand, you can't have too much. I know it's hard not to worry, but if your doctor isn't worried and called them healthy numbers, I am sure you are fine :) Good luck on Tuesday!

Holy Crapola!  That IS high ... but like others said, I don't think you can ever have too much and I always thought the more the better.   Some of it probably has to do with the PIO too.  I think those are awesome numbers.  I'm so excited for you!

  • I was never told my progesterone levels. But if your nurse wasn't worried, I would guess that it's fine.

  • If it makes you feel better my last two levels were 295 and 229.5.  :)  My Dr. asked me if I was really tired (on top of pregnancy).  Apparently when you have high progesterone levels, fatigue is a side effect.  I was able to stop PIO and will be going back to check my level on Tuesday.
