18 MONTHS

My 30 weeker is now 18 months old. We had out 18 month doctors appointment yesterday. Aiden is now 26 lbs and 33 1/2 inches tall. I told the doctor that I was concerned with speech because he only says about 6 words, the doctor told me to give him to 21 months and thinks that he will take off but if not for me to call and get a referral to a speech therapist.

Is there anything I can do to encourage speech other than talking to him/reading to him?

Re: 18 MONTHS

  • Our 29 weekers are almost 17 months old. My youngest boy has tons of words but our oldest just said his first word this week. We have been using sign language, target words, and communication temptations. The one that is working best for us right now is counting, "one" then pausing, "two", even longer pause, then "THREE!" In a really excited voice before we do something they love like get lifted high in the air. Our youngest counts along now and our oldest just started trying to say three. Here are a few links a speech pathologist friend sent to me:
