Stranger Anxiety

My 19-month-old often bursts into tears when strangers say hello or try to interact with him. I know it's a developmental phase but it's embarrassing, especially since people are just being friendly. He seems to be worse than other toddlers. Anyone else experiencing this? Is there anything I can do about it? He goes to daycare so he gets regular exposure to people other than me and DH.

My 21 month DD is the exact opposite!  I wish she had just a bit of hesitation for strangers, but she will wave and say hi to every single person in the grocery store, and then half the time she runs away from my husband when he gets home.  I don't get it.  But my husbands nieces were the same as your son, and they grew out of it around 2, when they were able to communicate better.
