Grey tooth from trauma... (UPDATE)

DD fell at daycare last October. Last December we went to the dentist to take a look at her tooth since it was turning slightly grey. They did an xray and showed no damage to her permanent tooth so we let it be.

In June we went back in for her cleaning and the dentist said it was lightening up and looked fine (no need to do anything).

Well when I was brushing her teeth the other night I noticed that the tooth was a little wiggly (just a tiny bit) and looked like it was getting a little more grey again.

I'm assuming she must have bumped her mouth and irritated it again. There is still no abscess which is what the dentist said to look out for and it doesn't seem to hurt.

I don't mind the grey color (it is what it is) but I'm concerned about it being a little loose. Especially almost a year later. Anyone ever deal with something like this?

UPDATE: Just got a call from her daycare. DD was pulling apart two blocks with her front teeth and the tooth came out. I'm crying over here. I feel so bad for her but I have to keep myself together not to freak her out. She has a dental appointment today at 1:30.

  • DD1 fell and knocked a tooth loose this summer. So far it is not discolored, but it is still wiggly a few months later. The dentist told us as long as there is no abscess we don't really need to worry. There is a higher likelihood that it will fall out before the permanent tooth is ready to come in, but aside from looking a little silly for a while that isn't a problem. She told us there is no way to predict if that will happen or not, and it could just hang in there and be wiggly until she's at a more "normal" age for loosing teeth.

  • Dd fell and knocked her two front teeth. They both turned grey. One popped out of it within a couple months and the other is just now starting to lighten up. Our dentist said everything looks fine but problems can occur at any point even after they turn white again, the probability of problems just lowers. I was told to keep an eye out for an abscess and/or her complaining about a tooth ache, without being asked if it hurts. I wouldn't keep wiggling it, you want it to heal. Have LO eat soft foods for about a week and be careful brushing. Those were my dentist's advice when he discovered that DD'S teeth were knocked slightly loose.

  • At 2.5 my son fell and hit his front tooth and it turned brown. He is 5 now and it is still there. It has always been a little lose and will often change in color like it might be returning to white but then a few weeks later be brown/grey as ever. Our dentist did an xray as well and his permanent tooth was fine. He told us he will leave it in because it is a place holder for his next tooth and if its pulled too soon it can cause crowding. I'm so happy we left it because my son has yet to lose any teeth and i]we really didn't want him to be toothless way beyond his time.
