Wax Rash

Ok seriously - this is what I get!

I have never had any issues with waxing. Before getting pregnant I regularly got Brazilian waxes. I got my eyebrows waxed a few weeks ago and no issues at all!

So I decided yesterday to get my belly waxed because the hair was just grossing me out. It. Hurt. So. Bad. WAY more than any Brazilian. Now I wake up today, and have a rash covering my belly.

Re: Wax Rash

  • Oh no! This is my fear in getting a Brazilian wax! Hope it gets better soon.

  • eeek.  Check into a calming cream.  There are plenty you can buy in a drugstore, and most places that wax sell them too.  I had a brazilian, my lower belly, eyebrows and arms done last week.  My arms always get a little rashy immediately after, but within an hour or two they look normal.  Eyebrows are red for about 30 minutes.  Definitely no rash down below.

  • Thanks for the ideas! I read to put cold compresses on it and some cream - now I need to make sure I find a cream I can use while pregnant!

My mom told me this is karma for being vain about my pregnant body ;)
  • Aloe gel should help. Hang tough!

  • I am sooo lucky I am a blond with hereditary roots from great Britain. The sunburn tendency really sucks but I am so glad I don't have to deal with body hair issues.
  • DON'T USE CREAM!
It is most likely folliculitis (sp). It is common on chest/tummy wax and upper lip wax. It is a skin reaction, inside the pores, from the waxing. The more cream/make up/sweat/dirt/oil that gets trapped in those open pores, the worse it will get.

Best way to avoid it is to have nothing applied after waxing, or if anything the pre-wax cleansing lotion (it is usually astringent and may contain a little alcohol, which will actually help close the pore). Avoid putting anything else on for 24-48 hours.

What you could try now is acetylsalicylic lotion (ingrown hair lotion) usually smells like vinegar and contains a bit of alcohol. It will reduce the swelling in the pores, and disappeare in no time. Folisan intimate (not folisan regular in the big brown bottle) is gentle enough to use when pregnant, but doesn't contain the alcohol, which is actually a very good anti-inflammatory.

I use the folisan regular strength after every wax, personally, to avoid ingrowns. Also good on shaving rash.

You can also make your own version, using ethanol alcohol (or isopropyl if you can't get the ethanol) and a little white vinegar and a dissolvable aspirin. Maybe 2 tablespoon of each liquid, and the aspirin. It will be strong! So you might want to dilute with a little distilled water. It does sting when it goes on, but it's magic.

Source - I have waxed over 15,000 brazilians!
  • @tesskerr - are you an esthetician? You know your stuff! I usually only bump on mobile so I am JUST now seeing this!! It has mostly gone away, but not entirely - and the hair is already starting to grow back :(
  • Tend Skin is a godsend for razor or wax irritation and prevent ingrown hairs. It's alcohol based (ethanol maybe?), and perhaps something you could mix up yourself if you googled, but little bottle will last you forever. It stings for a sec going on, but takes the bite out of the irritation really quickly.

  • Awesome! Thanks!!
  • My brazillian this month was MUCH more painful with no rash -- but much more red bumps! H and I just kept saying she looked angry!

Sucks that it happened to you -- but happy to see I'm not the only one with issues!
