My mom and dad did this when they first got together. It worked until the day they took all the rings out. The cat fell in the toilet and never went in the bathroom again.
Um, slowly raises hand....I've tried this (not this brand) but it was only $20 and I figured if it doesn't work I'm only out $20 and if it does, fantastic!
Yeah, it didn't work. I seriously hate hate hate scopping the box. In the 11 years I've owned cats, I've probably tried at least 12 types of boxes trying to find that perfect one that makes it not a dreaded chore. When you're at the stage where the box is still in the bathroom, it's horrible to walk in there with bare feet and step on litter granules (the boxes are usually in the basement). Then once the box was removed, they flat out refused to try the one in the toilet. Wouldn't even attempt. After a few days I had to search for where they were going....they found a pile of sawdust in the basement where MH was putting up drywall.
Yeah, not my best idea ever, but boy am I glad the job has been handed over to MH during pregnancy.

I have no idea how they did it but my parents trained our Siamese cat I had as a child to go in the toilet. Best part was that we only had one toilet and if you were on it when she had to go, she'd sit there and stare at you and meow until you were done.
Oh my god hahhaha I'd never heard I this before! Apparently I'm the only one....I couldn't fathom anyone being successful with it - kudos to your parents @berry30 , very impressive!
Guess it's not as funny as I had originally thought, lol!
It really depends on the cat. I've had two different aunts successfully train their adult cats to do this (not sure of the method or product used). I tried it once with my 2 cats (again, can't remember the specific product). One seemed to be taking to it well (we only got to the litter box in the toilet phase), but the other just simply refused to go - he held it until he got sick. *eye roll* Stubborn little fluff-ball. That was the end of that! It would be so amazing to get away from a litter box. I'm definitely enjoying my little reprieve during pregnancy.
