Just went through my first cycle and it was not as "easy" as I had thought it would be..... not that I thought it would be easy but I thought I would respond well to the medication and we would at least get a chance to go through and try out the IUI. Well, that was not the case. At first I was on a low dose of Gonal-F (75) and responded enough to produce 2 follicles, but they were slow-growing. So they upped my meds (112.5). Then the follicles grew to 17 and we were on the verge of triggering in a day and back-to-back IUIs the following two days. Well, back the next day and my two follicles shrunk. So they upped my meds again (150). Two days later I had 6 follicles sized 11-13, which continue to grow. Still they wanted me to continue with the higher dose of Gonal-F. Up until they realized that about 5 of the follicles were maturing (none really broke away from the pack). So, then they canceled my IUI but said we could still trigger and try to conceive the natural way (DH has only 1% normal morphology).
Ugggh. I know that we technically still have a shot, but I can't help feeling like this cycle was just a big bust. I'm trying to be positive, but I just feel it in my gut that we will have to go through this all over again. I am wondering if it's just better to go straight to IVF at this point. These past few weeks have been like one long emotional roller coaster. My heart goes out to those who have been on this path for a while now - your strength is inspiring.
