I hate the movie "The Goonies. "
BAM. I said it. I've been holding that in for years.
I've never watched it. DH flipped when he found out.
To be fair, I'd also never seen the Wizard of Oz until college. DH found out I'd never watched it, staked it out on TBS and we spent one Friday night watching Wizard of Oz. He's severely traumatized by my childhood, apparently.
That's because you were probably on a 4wheeler (ATV for everyone else) or doing something outside instead of watching tv lol
And the fact that we had nothing but rabbit ears for the TV. Cable? WTF is that? PBS is all this kid needed. Clearly it's why I'm such a superior intelligent being at this time in my life.

Wow it's only 10am where I'm at and theres already five pages holy crap.
I haven't gone through even the first page yet, but I'll go ahead and do mine now anyway.
I think the whole sex vs gender debate is stupid. I get it, trust me, no need to explain the logic to me. I just think it's stupid that people get so bent out of shape over one word vs the other. I use gender just because I think it's a nicer word (yeah I'm a weirdo for that I'm aware lol). But yeah, I just think people ought to get over it. No one is TRYING to be offensive by using gender instead of sex, and it's just one of those things people want to complain about anyway. Sheesh.
Oh. This again. How long was our streak with this, a month?
I will make sure to inform my trans friends that they should get over trying to explain why they find using the words interchangeably offensive.
I don't get bringing this up. This hasn't been much of a debate since first trimester. You say you don't get it and it's a stupid argument then why drag it out of the shadows? And as Gwinny said, it doesn't offend you but it does offend some and you are never going to change those people's mind so just leave it alone.
This whole debate always makes me think of nationality vs. ethinicity. People often ask me what my nationality is. I say, "American" they say, but.. where are you from? Calfornia.. but.. where are your parents from.. they also live in California. I know what they really want to ask is "why do you look different? You are clearly not 100% white." lol. silly people you are asking about my ethnicity.

Not this debate again. I find the bolded part odd. Sex is not a bad word. No one is going to wash your mouth out with soap. What's so hard about using the correct term? Do you say pee-pee instead of penis, too? You know, since it sounds nicer.
This makes me want to turn this thread into a internet version of the penis game. You know, the really mature one where you see who can yell "penis" the loudest without being embarrassed...
But I am afraid to google for gifs of this. So, I guess that's the end of that thought.
I'll throw my two cents in about names, though it's not quite in the same way things have been talked about so far.
I side-eye anyone who names their kid after weather. Sunny, Stormy, Rainie, any spelling variation thereof. Yes, this means I side-eye my own parents as one of those names is my own. I don't deny that it might sound nice and all, but really. There ought to be plenty of pretty names without going into weather. I still, to this day, get teased over my name because it's just fuel for the fire and people go after the easiest thing to tease and do not get the hint that they should stop, kids or adults. I know it's not possible to keep kids from being teased/bullied, but it's definitely possible to at least not give them extra things to go at it with. Maybe I just got unlucky, but given it's been happening for twenty years now and shows no sign of stopping....

Here's a fun, uncontroversial sidenote to this UO. When I was growing up in the suburbs, there was a meteorologist Dr. Frank Field on the local CBS affiliate out of NYC. He was on for years. He had a son who followed him into meteorology and was eventually the alternate weather guy the same CBS affiliate. His name is Storm. Storm Field. I swear I'm not making that up.
Therefore, I think if you plan for your kid to follow in the family's meteorological footsteps, maybe it's OK to name them after weather.

My UO is I don't like that @ColeRose closed that dream thread by SG. It was getting entertaining! I'm not usually into all this drama but today I am! Especially since we now want to try to keep up with A14.
Actually, I have a UO. I don't like PSL. Or starbucks. There, I said it.
ETA: And I don't get why there are like 3 or four threads circulating about them. Seriously? Who cares that much?
I completely agree on Starbucks! Plus, I'll go one step further and say I don't like Jimmy Johns and I don't understand why people are so crazy for it. It is just a sandwich?!

I wasn't going to say anything, but since it was brought up, I don't like that threads can just be closed like that. I can understand if it were a serious issue. When my daughter was a couple months old, a woman had a complaint about someone not sending formula checks, the other woman accidentally shared the other woman's address. (long story). Posts like that is when I think it's appropriate to close them and delete them. I personally don't think that the boards should be regulated so much. I promise I am not hating on Cole, just my opinion.

There were other things going on behind closed doors in that thread so I had to close it. That is all I can really share, sorry if it bothered anyone.
Mary is a place holder? Matthew? A place holder for what? Maybe the significance is that they like the name... Not sure I get it.
That is what had me confused. I guess @txmamatobe is saying that there is no significance to the name and it just is there to take up space??
To each, his own. Our LO's middle name will be Ann, because both of my grandmothers' middle names are Ann, and DH's maternal grandmother's name is Ann.

That's kinda like saying "I think I should be able to use the word retard if I want to. I'm aware it's offense, but meh..."
It may be NBD to you, but it is a big deal to the people to whom it references. Saying that you're aware, but you're still going to say what offends people makes you look inconsiderate. How difficult is it to say "sex" instead of "gender"? Actually, it's phonetically easier to say "sex"...
Honestly, I am a very hard person to offend, so stuff like this is all purely hypothetical to me. I just don't see why anyone would go out of their way to be offensive when they don't have to be. It doesn't make any sense to me...
Sorry for bringing it up if so many people are sick of it. I think I probably wasn't around too much when it was already apparently discussed to death. Also, I can never think of an UO, so I was excited that I even thought of one this week. I don't need a debate, I promise
Anyway, I guess that was my point is that when I say gender rather than sex I'm not trying to offend anyone. I highly doubt that anyone who uses gender instead of sex is trying to be deliberately offensive. I don't think it should be offensive, so I guess that's why I don't mind saying it.
I'm confused...did Supergirl have another thread closed? Or is this the same one that was closed the other day? Why do all her threads get closed? Is she doesn't want people to comment, maybe she should stop posting? I'm honestly lost here as to what would be a good enough reason to close two of her threads where nobody was being "mean"

Oh oh oh! I have an UO! I don't like Summer. So many people love it, here in Wisconsin, but I do not. Anytime the weather is livable by bugs, I hate it. I like it just cold enough to make all bugs go away. I am really spoiled though, because until this last week, the temperature hasn't touched the 90's, sometimes not even the 80's. I wore sweaters in July. I know I am lucky, since I grew up in south Texas, but I still hate it!

I think Cole closed the threads, not SG. I really think SG could consume drama for sustenance.
We all were being mean in that last thread, but she makes it so easy...
I think that in my opinion if people are not going to listen to constructive criticism, maybe this is not the board for them. People need to remember not everyone is going to agree with everyones opinion and people need to stop trying so hard. When I first joined the bump I had no idea what I was doing so instead of posting I kinda just hung around and laughed at the others who got their feathers ruffled so bad.
I'd like to see people banned for starting drama but if that were the case then we would lose some of the "mean girls" because they react to it and I do not want that. So we all should just ignore the one's that we know cause a significant problem
My UO: I HATE being asked how I'm feeling. I know, I know -- it is not in the same territory as unwanted belly rubs (or kisses -- WTH?) or weight comments, but it just makes me want to jump out of my skin.
How am I feeling? I am 6 months pregnant and today is the 34th day of triple-digit temperatures this summer. I am sweaty and irritable. My hips hurt like a mofo, and I have a 2 1/2 year old who wants me to sit on the floor playing with her all day. I don't like food, except ice cream, so I've gained more weight than I'd like and feel like a big fat cow and nothing fits me. I'm feeling AWESOME -- thanks so much for asking. I DO NOT WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT.

I actually don't like Sons of Anarchy at all. I think it glorifies biker club culture which is inherently racist & sexist - at least from what I have seen from personal experience.
I like SOA but I agree with you. Also Jax Teller.
It should go away just because of all the people wanting to name their kid Jax (or insert-your-favorite-variant here) now. FFS, it's his nickname, not his real name! Just....don't!
I actually don't like Sons of Anarchy at all. I think it glorifies biker club culture which is inherently racist & sexist - at least from what I have seen from personal experience.
I can't speak for Sons of Anarchy (and in fact had to google just what that is, I'm that out of touch), but growing up with my dad in a biker club, I can say (at least in my area) that I'd rather have a group of them at my back than many other people. And they're not sexist, at the least, and as a whole they weren't racist, either. Individuals, perhaps, especially smack dab in the middle of Texas, but on the whole they were just as nice/good, if not more so, than people not associated in my experience.
However, the groups I was around were Texas Veterans (which I don't even know if they're around anymore) and BACA (Bikers Against Child Abuse), so that can definitely skew my perspective on it.

I hate hate hate when people give comments on our baby being born so close to christmas. "Poor Baby" "Make sure to have the baby before Christmas"....
I am sorry - but if we are so damn spoiled in this part of the world that we are UPSET our children are born near yet another time of year they get PRESENTS, then boohoohoo. Kids get wayyy to much crap anyway.
I understand it is hard to plan birthday parties near holidays. I understand some people feel "ripped off", their birthday's aren't as important any more because of Christmas (again, spoiled much?)...... but, seriously?
If you recognize your child's special day, make them feel loved and important and not ignore their day- how can anyone feel "bad" for them? If some parents have a hard time with this, separating a birthday from christmas, then it's the parents fault.
