High BP after delivery?

Stuck in the hospital with high blood pressure. My BP was great all pregnancy. Never higher than 115 over 72, usually more like 110 over 68. I had an emergency c section on Monday night and BP has been around 145 over 90 since.

Anybody else have high BP after delivery? How was it treated? Nurses are hinting at keeping me in the hospital some extra days.

I did, they kept me one day extra, they did nothing other than monitor it

I did with both my first pregnancy and this one. Like you, my BP was great during my pregnancies and only as high after delivery. They didn't keep me any extra days, but sent me home with instructions to come in for any symptoms (headache, right abdominal pain, blurred vision etc) and had me see my MW at 10 days PP to recheck. By then my BP had normalized. Depending on how high it is, they may send you home with some medication. A friend of mine went home on meds and was tapered off by 6 weeks PP. It seems that some women's bodies respond to labor or the hormone fluctuations this way. GL to you!

I had the opposite happen, my blood pressure plumited and it made me pass out. They did some extra tests and its still low but they said they'll still send me home on time. Mine was fine all through pregnancy too. Good luck! Hope you feel better and it corrects itself!

Mine was the opposite too. Super low after and I was constantly monitored but actually discharged faster than anticipated since I was still having issues. Perfectly fine during pregnancy too. I hope you stabilize soon so you can go home and enjoy your little baby.

Mine has been high. They kept me for monitoring. I am 16 days PP and it is still running high honestly.

I was kept an extra day for monitoring and was sent home with a prescription for procardia. My BP remained high (but controlled) for about another week and a half. After that it went back to normal and has stayed low.

My doctor would call me everyday to ask for my Bp readings.

I stayed an extra day because it was high and had a pp dd appointment a week after I got out of the hospital to have it checked. When I left the hospital it was 131/87.

I'm assuming they want to see your bottom number get below 90. When it is 90'or above they look for other signs of pre e. With dd1 I had pre e prior to delivering and when my BP rose after delivery I was put on mag sulfate for 24 hours and given a prescription for a BP medicine.

I had this but it developed during labor and turned into preeclampsia. I had a c-section so they kept me longer anyway but they treated me with magnesium for 24 hours after delivery. It was awful.

I had really high blood pressure after my c section - like 180 over 80. They kept me longer and put me on increased blood pressure Meds.

I did. I think I was there one day longer and then had bed rest for a few days. It went down pretty quickly.

I also had slightly higher BP after this delivery but it went down within an hour or so.

Blood pressure increased at 37 & 4 and delivered DD2. Had this happen with first.

With DD2, (this pregnancy) started having bad headache for a few days and then started seeing spots at 14 days pp.

My bp was high at grocery store 144/95 so called OB and had me go to hospital.

At hospital it was 180/99 and the highest it got was 200/108. I was put on mag and blood pressure med-was in the hospital the entire weekend.

Sent home with blood pressure meds and go back in a week for 6 week checkup.
