Twins naps changing-from each other-BTDT please help!

Did anyone have 1 twin drop a nap before the other? E dropped her 3rd nap by 5 months.. S sometimes still takes a 3rd nap at 11 mos
E has been fighting naps for about a month now, leading me to believe that she might be better off with just one nap... S is NOWHERE near ready for this..

How did you deal? Can't imagine forcing either of them to go against what they naturally need but I might loose my $hit trying to work this all out

  • I don't remember how to change my ticker... but they will be 1 year in 3 weeks!

  • How did you do it? S is ready for bed 2 hours after she's up.. I can't imagine stretching her to a late morning nap!

  • This is tough as it sounds like they have pretty drastically different sleep needs.  With my fraternals (also v. different sleepers) I forced the issue by always putting them down and waking them up together.  The schedule is dictated by the one with more sleep trouble and luckily the other tends to be fairly flexible.  When one was ready to drop the 3rd, I just made the other one do it by stretching her wake windows even though she was sleepy.

As far as getting sleepy baby to stay up more, stretch her wake windows slowly.  Make her morning window longer by 10-15 minutes at a time.  You'll know if you exceed her limit, but by 11 months she should definitely be able to go longer than 2 hrs in the morning.  I would try for 3 1/2 and see if E can go down after that long too...
  • I followed 2/3/4 hours for awake time at 12m. And when they were ready to drop the second nap (at 13ish months), I dropped the morning nap. I knew it was time because if they had a 45-minute morning nap, they would NOT have an afternoon nap at all. I also have big kids to work around so napping later just didn't work. You might have a little more crankiness but it passes. And if your one is ready to drop to one nap, I would keep the morning nap for your nappier twin and put them both down again around noon. Good luck! I miss morning naps *sigh* :)
