Long flight ahead

I can't find a post in this from my phone app so I apologize if this thread is a repeat.

I'm headed out for a long weekend with the hubby. We'll be flying for 6 hrs...I'm not terribly nervous I've had a great pregnancy so far but I'm curious if any moms have some advice or experience they can share with me.

Also we are staying at an all-inclusive resort, any suggestions on foods to avoid?

Thanks :)

Re: Long flight ahead

  • Make sure you get up every hour or so and walk to keep up your circulation and stay hydrated. Other than that, it's pretty much like flying not pregnant IMO.

  • I second the PP walk around a d drink a ton of water. Enjoy your trip. As far as food my OB says seafood from places with different rules for cooling a cleaning isn't the wisest choice but other than that use your best judgment.
  • Thanks ladies!! I have a feeling with all this water I'll be drinking on the flight I'll be up to pee often haha!! We are staying at a Riu (stay here often) they only serve bottled water & I will avoid seafood!! My goal is to keep the adventurous foodie under control & go with the safer choice! Hope you all have a great holiday weekend!! :D

  • Buy your own water once you pass security, so that you can have it available at all times. Try to book an aisle seat, next to a bathroom. Get up every hour and walk around for a little bit. The front of the plane is less turbulent, so try to get a seat in the front if turbulence bothers you.

  • Are you going to Mexico? If so, I would even avoid salads- anything they would rinse with tap water.
Many people get e.coli in Mexico from salads!

As for flight, just make sure you get up every hour or so and walk a bit. I flew to Hawaii which was 7 hours for me about 14 weeks into my pregnancy and I was seated in the very front of the plane, so I would just use one of the back bathrooms so I had to walk there. At my seat every now and then I would stretch my legs.
  • I'm heading to Australia in a month or so... 23 hour flights each way!! I've been discussing with my OB as I was worried it was too much flight time, but my pregnancy has been normal and he sees no issues. He did suggest I take an aspirin each day in the few days leading up to my flight and the same on return. There is no issue with aspirin in pregnancy (like Tylenol). Other than that, lots of water, and move about as you can as previous posters suggested. Also, it's an idea to sit at the front of the plane for a few reasons- better air circulation, and you usually board and exit the plane faster. Sounds like a nice break! Enjoy it :)

  • I will be taking a 12 hour international flight this Friday. In addition to what others already mentioned, my OB recommended no going through the security X-ray machine and asking for a pat down check instead.

  • I've flown a few long flights this pregnancy already and the best thing you can do is make sure you are well hydrated, stand up and walk around every hour and wear compression socks. I would also be careful while going through security and put sure to request the pat down. Safe travels!
