Sorry this is late. I am having trouble adjusting to the school-therapy schedule!

First day of kindy for us and all is well! DS handled dropoff like a champ. I even managed to keep it together.

EDIT: As I'm writing this my phone rings. Despite 5-6 attempts to get his busing info changed, it apparently still didn't get worked out. So, he's still sitting at school 20 minutes past the end of the school day. His social worker is driving him to his afterschool care site. I guess that's service, huh! Good thing I've at least met these folks. In all seriousness, they seem like awesome people. The heat in Minneapolis has been the topic of the day with many parents furious that schools without air conditioning (which are most) are in session with heat indexes over 100  and 71 degree dew points. DS' school has gone to great lengths to bring in fans, water, and popsicles, and rotate them through the few air-conditioned parts of the school.

DS finally got a haircut after 6 months. And he did surprisingly well. We found a place at a treatment center for kids with special needs. They do haircuts once a month. The lady was so great with him, the atmosphere was quiet and not too overwhelming for him. DS is 3 and just ate a bread product for the first time today. He has serious texture issues and would never eat any type of bread product. But he took three bites of sourdough bread today! Yay!!

DD has randomly been saying "thank you mommy" or "thank you daddy" when we hand her something. Its that head spinning appropriate type of response we rarely get.

DS had his first day of preschool yesterday and while he nailed drop-off, when I picked him up his teacher said that he had had "a rough day." Today she said he did much better and did well in his first PT session. I'll take it!

We took the girls to a local amusement park last weekend. DD1 had a great time! We almost didn't go b/c DH's company sponsors it (so we go for free) and DH mixed up the days -- which we didn't realize until he checked the tickets that morning. DD1 was so disappointed when we explained; she had a blast last year and had really been looking forward to it. She just burst into tears. So we sucked it up, paid for tickets and went anyway. I'm glad we did, we had a great day.

Two girls hugged her and a boy said goodbye at the end of last week. I was so glad to see her seeming to fit in so far. I just hope we can keep that positive momentum going! 

She's doing a pretty good job of reporting back to me on things that haven't happened during the day, getting more chatty about class, and remembering more names. All good things for week two of kindergarten! 

ETA: I'm going to add another. Her kindergarten start-of-class routine is WAY more complicated than preschool, I think I counted seven tasks before she is ready and can sit down and wait for class to start (putting lunch in lunch bin, checking which table she sits at, getting herself a chair, water bottle at desk, etc.). I was super frustrated on Monday because she was literally just wandering in circles and I had to physically point her in the right direction to get these things done. I thought I was going to have to make a visual card for her to go over in the car on the way there. But yesterday she only needed a couple of verbal prompts, and today I was able to just stand back and let her do everything. She's getting this down!

DD and I went over to visit SIL (DH's brothers wife) and her youngest two were home. Her cousin who is 2 ran up and grabbed her hand, and she allowed him to drag her around for a while, half smiling. Not an ideal interaction but a big step from jerking away! I was able to get her to chase him a bit and let him tickle her. After we got in the house she said loudly "HEY! Wheres the purple nu nu?" Nu nu is her word for vaccuum, her cousin has a toy one she loves to play with. It was awesome that she remembered the toy from our last vist in July and actually thought enough to ASK for it. She then followed that with "Wheres Jay?" putting her little hands up and making an inquisitive facial expression, that would be her older cousin who just started back to school. I'm loving this whole "asking where things/people are" business!
